Happy new year Nairalanders, my interview was slated for 31st December, 2015 at 10.15am, this was how it went, kindly go through it and point out the areas where you think i went wrong.

Interview transcript:

1) What you going to do at VBC, Tulsa?
Answer: I am going to pursue my undergraduate degree in Theological and Ministerial Studies. She said No (with an unpleasing face) saying, this does not look like an undergraduate programme, then I realized I had made a big blunder, I didn’t even know what kind of programme it was, then I tried correcting myself saying Oh! Sorry I meant to say it’s a 2-years Foundation/Preparatory Course which was not still correct, I was supposed to say “I am going to study a Religious Studies Programme in Theological and Ministerial Studies”.

2) How much do you earn?
Answer: N30,000 (because I had told them I was working as a Secretary in a Law Firm on my DS-160 application), the woman said OK

3) Who will be paying for this?
Answer: My dad

4) What does he do?
Answer: He's a Business man into independent oil marketing and he also has an haulage company. The woman said OK.

5) How did you hear about VBC?
Answer: My Pastor told me about it, he’s a former student of VBC. The woman said OK.

6) How many other schools did you apply to?
Answer: Just Victory Bible College

7) Have you travelled outside your country, before?
Answer No.....she said ok……………

Then typed for few seconds and said: “Sorry, we are unable to issue out a visa to you at this time, this letter explains why, you may re-apply at any time if you wish to”, Thank you and have a great day.

AND PLEASE, IF I WILL HAVE TO RE-APPLY AND ORDER MY SCHOOL TO ISSUE ME A NEW I-20 FOR ANOTHER SESSION, I KNOW MY SEVIS PAYMENT IS STILL VALID FOR 12 MONTHS, BUT WILL MY NEW SEVIS NO. BE THE SAME AS THE OLD SEVIS NO. ON MY I-20 WHICH I ERSTWHILE USED AND WAS REFUSED??

Sorry for saying this in this new year and my first after a long time. You students have started cutting corners by apply for religion studies thinking it's the easiest way of getting admission and entering US. If I may ask, can you give me three cogent reasons within the next 3hrs why you chose to study religion? (my timer is ticking).

I use verizon FIOS with 80 Mbps and even with this, VBC website won't open for the past 30 mins (probably their website engineers were partying hard or sleeping at work).

You applied to only VBC and you expect even me to believe you're a student? Are you fuccking kidding me? undecided In JAMB alone they apply to 3 Unis, 3 Polys and 3 Cols at once, how much more applying for education in US.

Please do more research, apply to more schools and other possible courses or if you're hell bent on ministration works, know reasons why you chose the school and the course please.

I chose to apply religion studies not because I do not have the opportunity to apply to other schools or because I was looking for a Cutting Corner as stated by you, this is just what I find interesting and feel called to do.

Reason:
1) I have a strong passion and love for studying God's word.

2) Graduating from a Religious Studies Programme will help know more on how to Minister to unbelievers, Nigeria today all sorts of social vices, teens becoming cultists doing all sorts of immoral acts. Getting to know more about God's word will groom me well to be able to preach to these people who fall under such category.

3) This is what I find Joy in doing most, whenever I minister to people and they choose to change from their evil ways, my heart rejoices and this is why I took up the challenge to be fully groomed in His Words.

I applied to only Victory Bible College, because I have a mentor who graduated from there, and you should know the definition of a MENTOR. So my mentor was groomed by this same school, so why on earth will I apply to other schools. Applying to other schools means I do not believe in the teaching capacity of VBC and I also see it as someone being desperate to school in the US by all means.

If one has a genuine reason and a school in mind, I see no reason why same person should apply to more than one school, I see it as wanting to school in the USA by all means.

And answering your JAMB Statement, Jamb only gives students options to study at 1 University, 1 Polytechnic and 1 College and not 3 as stated by you. This option was made available to student whose cut-off are low, meaning if your cut-off mark does not meet that of the University, you apply to the Polytechnic and likewise the College.

I hope this answers your question. Thanks

[s]1) I have a strong passion and love for studying God's word. [/s]

Every believer does even without wanting to study religion. This is helpless in your case, so it's not cogent.

dadeyemo28:

2) Graduating from a Religious Studies Programme will help know more on how to Minister to unbelievers, Nigeria today all sorts of social vices, teens becoming cultists doing all sorts of immoral acts. Getting to know more about God's word will groom me well to be able to preach to these people who fall under such category.

3) This is what I find Joy in doing most, whenever I minister to people and they choose to change from their evil ways, my heart rejoices and this is why I took up the challenge to be fully groomed in His Words.

In summary you're passionate about converting unbelievers after ministration. Based on your point 3, what's your experience in this field and where do you work presently?

dadeyemo28:

I applied to only Victory Bible College, because I have a mentor who graduated from there, and you should know the definition of a MENTOR. [s]So my mentor was groomed by this same school, so why on earth will I apply to other schools. Applying to other schools means I do not believe in the teaching capacity of VBC and I also see it as someone being desperate to school in the US by all means.

If one has a genuine reason and a school in mind, I see no reason why same person should apply to more than one school, I see it as wanting to school in the USA by all means.[/s]

I see you're not anywhere near ready to get the visa any time soon. What's the ranking of this VBC that groomed your MENTOR(S) and which you thought is the best in US? You applied to only VBC and got the admission straight without any sweat is enough to kick you out of the interview. A genuine student with great passion for studying will know every admission is competitive and apply to at least 3 schools, so as to increase the chance of exploring the possibility for best education. Your MENTOR(S) graduated from the school doesn't mean the school is the best one out there you can find. You see reasons I said this is all about cutting corners.

dadeyemo28:

And answering your JAMB Statement, Jamb only gives students options to study at 1 University, 1 Polytechnic and 1 College and not 3 as stated by you. This option was made available to student whose cut-off are low, meaning if your cut-off mark does not meet that of the University, you apply to the Polytechnic and likewise the College.

I hope this answers your question. Thanks

At bold, clap for yourself, you said Jamb gave you the opportunity to apply to 3 schools at once... right? So I wasn't wrong saying Jamb gave you the opportunity to expand your horizon and apply to many schools all at once. The same is expected of you in silent when applying for US education. Question, did you do SAT?

This is the same problem you undergraduates always face when applying to US schools. Listen to me, look for more schools even if you're not changing your course like I said earlier on and know why you choose your school and the course.

Your case's closed!

Happy new year to everybody here. And i pray God will hear each and everyone's prayer in Jesus name, amen.
My friend needs help. He just asked me a question which I adviced him already but I just said I should ask good people here. He travelled to the US on a visiting b2 visa, his second trip so far to the US, and 2 months after his arrival in the US, he visited a school (community college ) and he was told in the school that if they give him admission that they will change his status from b2 to f1, that the school guarantee him this. He said the school said no need for him to come back to Naija to reapply for a f1 visa. I adviced him that in my own opinion, I will suggest he return to Naija and reapply for f1 visa that his change of status from b2 to f1 in the US might not be approved.
Kindly advice him too pls
Thanks
