DISCLAIMER: There are quite a few spoilers in this review. Don’t swear for me. I told you now.

Movie facts

Title: Hitman: Agent 47

Released: August 21, 2015.

Major cast: Rupert Friend, Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware and Thomas Kretschmann.

Director: Aleksander Bach.

Genre: Action

Movie plot

Genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, he’s the culmination of decades of research, endowed with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. Known only as Agent 47 (Rupert Friend), his latest target is a corporation that plans to unlock the secret of his past to create an army of killers even more powerful than him. With help from a young woman, the elite assassin confronts revelations about his own origins in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.

Now, onto the review.

Just another action film

In an age of endless action films, Hitman: Agent 47 is just another one in the line. The movie maintains a steady fast-pace, with the action starting right from the very beginning of the film, and continues to the very end. With blood and gory killing techniques everywhere to the high-speed car chases to the endless camera tricks, action movie lovers should like Hitman: Agent 47.

Rupert Friend’s acting (and everyone’s acting, to be honest)

We know the Hitman character is devoid of emotion and love and fear and what not, but actor Rupert Friend, who plays Agent 47, presents what is one of the most soulless performances since Kirsten Stewart in Twilight. He plays the part of the killer assassin with an eerie calmness that could almost pass for boredom. It’s not like there much quality acting anywhere else in the film anyways.

Did Audi pay for the movie?

It’s hard not to leave the cinema and wonder if you paid to watch a movie or an Audi commerical. The Audi brand is pushed heavily in the movie, showing the car off as a killing machine/indestructible, unstoppable vehicle. There’s even a subtle jab at Mercedes somewhere, or maybe that’s just me.

Stays true to its roots

Hitman: Agent 47 is based on a video game, and for the most part, the movie doesn’t deviate from the game itself. The character’s looks, his signature pistols and even his ability to quickly change appearances — all hallmarks of the video game — are represented in the movie.

Favorite quote

John Smith: “Feels good to finally meet a legend.”

47: “I thought you could only be a legend when you’re dead.”

John Smith: “Oh, but you are.”

Verdict

Not much work or effort was put into this movie, and it’s almost an insult to the Hitman game franchise. Below average.
