Whynotthetruth:
"It would be recalled that the reformation and modernization programmes of the Nigeria Customs under the recently retired AlhajiAbdullahiDikko received international acclaims and thrust the Nigeria Customs into the consciousness of WCO.

Under the former CGC, the modersationprogramme of the agency was used as a model for other countries in the West and Central Africa sub-region while the training College of the Customs at Gwagwalada, Abuja, was adopted by the WCO as training institutions for all customs officers in the sub-region.

Also, the WCO was so happy with the agency that its influential Secretary –General, Mr Kunio Mikuriya, paid a scheduled visit to Nigeria where he lauded the modernization and reformation programme in the Nigeria Customs. As a result of this international recognition and encomium, the officers of the agency received training from highly impressed Customs administrations from the developed member-countries of WCO, with the support of the global body.

Above is what modern world does which is building strong institutions as Jonathan did using technology not looking for superman or strong individuals as buhari and other archaic folks with analogue brains think...

For how long will Ali be there? Is he a superman? How many points will he cover and control? How long will it take him to understand the job and shortcuts there? What magic wand will he wave to get the system cleaned up...

Buhari with Ali is simply equal to using analogue app to sort out a digital challenge cheesy Keep dreaming of having Jack Bauer in buhari and new custom boss Ali cheesy

You may enjoy the proceeds from corruption now, but it will come back to hunt you, imagine that none of the deputy comptroller was clean enough to head the agency after spending so many years in the service

PMB should be educated on the nitty gritty of democracy, its obvious that he somewhat lacks knowledge on how a democratic government is ran. From the appointments made so far, he has shown gross neglect to the details of the constitution of Fed. Rep of Nigeria and the rule of Law; due process has been disregarded and this is not cool at all, infact it poses a threat to democracy. He should stop leveraging on the hype he's created on corruption by appointing his friends and family into key positions. Nigeria is corrupt, yes we know that already, BUT disregarding the rule of law and appointing people he feels are “not corrupt", is corruption on its own. Buhari is not immune to the soverignty of the constitution, he is bound by its powers to function as the President and it is high time he started evaluating the details of the law before he does anything of National interest.

Border control is function of Nigeria immigration and other security agencies not customs...

Customs has almost automated most of their operations though a few still remains...that's yam and goat analogy of Jonathan or building strong institutions Jonathan did in different sectors including customs...

What custom needs is to continue with those Jonathan/Dikko reforms to automate ALL their activities thereby minimizing such leakages...not getting one old man in the name of cleaning imaginary system...

What and how will Ali do it if not what Jonathan/Dikko did...That's enduring legacy and building strong institutions as against strong individuals who can only be at a place at a time...

BTW do you know how long it will take Ali to understand the system before planning on how to check whatever he wants to achieve....

Buhari is simply ridiculous and unfortunately cheered on by ridiculous people...It's modern and technology driven age plzzzz...Buhari and his style are analogue bro...

PMB is free to break the law to sanitise immigration & customs as far as I am concerned. sad

Pray never to have any dealings with either agency, there is not a single honest soul in either outfit..

DSS did a background check on the assistants compt of both outfits, only the immigration boss was manageable& was thereby made acting comptroller, No single person in the customs top hierarchy could be salvaged!!!

Unfortunately, Nigerians did not do a background check on Buhari. Tell us what Buhari achieved in the last 30 yrs? Without Tinubu, Buhari will not be there today. He couldn't even package himself well in the past. Suddenly, he has become mr know all.

Please can you tell us who created the mess he is pretending to clean with only northerners, in the first place? Nigeria did not start with Obasanjo's presidency in 1999. The North created this corruption. The south simply joined them. The North is responsible for our predicament.

If indeed the North sincerely believes that only the North is gifted enough to rule Nigeria, they should provide the evidence based on the achievements of the North since almagamation. There are no pointers to support this idea of "northern honesty" and "integrity". Abacha, IBB, Abdusallami, Dikko, Shagari, etc, were and are from the North.

Since Buhari is now the c-in-c, what stops him from demanding for his certificates from the army and showing same to the world? Do we mean that by virtue of being the president, all his lies and utterances in the past are "wiped" away? It is only in a place like Nigeria that that will happen. When Obama was accused of not being born in America, what did he do? He published his birth certificate. That is called being responsible and sensitive. So far, Buhari has refused to declare his assets publicly. So why is he acting like a saint?

All we want is a good government. True. It shouldn't matter where the appointments come from. Again, that's true. It should matter though, if all of his appointment is centred among his North. It is even more worrisome, given the excuse Nigerians are given. How exactly does Buhari expect the other parts of the country to feel? There are capable hands in every region. Buhari is simply empowering his people at the detriment of others. You can call it anything you like, but I call it Northocracy. grin grin grin

In other words...No law was actually broken.

It is evident that Buhari is ready to clean up the mess he met....by appointing credible people in the highest revenue generating government agencies.

The only people that have problems with this appointments are the wailing wailers. ...they will rather see Buhari fail rather than Nigeria moving forward....forgetting that if Buhari fails, Nigerians like them are the biggest loosers.

PDP's style of opposition: Take credit for the good things in the first 100 days.....pass the Shitty ones to APC as their fault cheesy. How best can one be a wailing clown

There is no credible, qualified or competent person from your region including you, if you are looking for sense please go to the north, sense is now richly available in the north, better start respecting all the aboki in your area.

Many baseless critisicms.

Most people who are complaining about appointment do not actually have any reason in particular. It's either for their greed or to criticize the govt of being biased as they usually do. If he appoints your tribes man who is not efficient, you will still criticize the govt.

The earlier people get out of bitterness of losing the better for them. After GEJ lost, all his supporters have refused to accept the Victor and his achievements.

We all know in our hearts that PMB is objective and he's all about the progress of this nation.

During the election campaign, GEJists main reason for not wanting GMB was that he can't be clean when many APC members are dirty. Now that they know he doesn't send them, they've resolved to mediocre critisicm.

I'm sure that by the time the president balances the appointments among the geopolitical zones, the wailers will still complain. This time, perhaps about his accent or his choice of cap.

Shior.

fellows, laws are made by man not by aliens and so therefore they can be amended in good faith. Take for instance it has being long standing that the wearing of Hijab/veil by Muslim ladies was instructed by the most high, but now that its been known that kids are now used as suicide bombers in the North. It has dawned on clerics that the continued use of the veil by teenagers should be abolished. So one is forced to ask was this wisdom revealed to them by God or they saw the need to amend the law. Like wise this situation. Thank you

CG is a rank achieved by progression in the Custom Service, how come someone who already is a retired Colonel will now be ranked Comptroller General when he does not pass through all it takes to be on the rank ? This rank, just like Chief of Defence is not bought, it is achieved having been schooled and tested in the service Haba this country leadership do things to suit them. Even lawyers who suppose to know better supports idiosyncrasies all for gains. When Ali leaves the service he will bear Colonel Comptroller General as rank We haven't heard that in the world before. Buhari should just save his face and change Ali's title to Administrator.

That apart, for God's sake how can there be no suitable next senor ACG of Custom to be appointed CG, that itself is indictment on the ACG in the service. Why still retain them if that is so? Buhari is economical with the truth He is yet to let Nigerians know why he cannot find suitable replacement from the service. Maybe they are non northerners.
