My broda.. I will advise u to. Read verse 11 if d same chapter..
God hates divorce, separation is allowed bt he or she is not allowed to marry som1 else..Our Lord Jesus Christ talked abt it in Matthew 19:9..pls d BIBLE is our standard, nt our pastors
Debeloved87:
My pastor's marriage crashed last year, thou the marriage produced children and the parting seems unreconcilable even thou i think it fell on domestic issues and also the fact that the wife doesn't really flow with the pastoral call of the husband as her pastor husband wish her to.

Recently the man of God was talking about it and he said that he will take a new wife very soon anytime he is ready, and he ask us whether its scriptural but we just giggled and he told us that it is scriptural that we should open the book of 1 corinthians 7:14-15 "for the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband, else where your children unclean but now are they holy; but if the unbelieving depart, let him depart, a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases:but God has called us to peace...

This actually was a little bit confusing to me, since the wife in question wasn't an unbeliever... Is my pastor right with his assertions?

the word Fornication are for people who are not married but couples the are married Bible use adultery the only grant for divorce is Fornication or adultery.. so your pastor is every wrong.. if your wife is not a believer you could convert her with time

If you follow your conscience and worship God, you won't be contradicting yourself with the bible.

#No religion.

Abeg tell that your pastor to read the context of that scripture he is quoting. Notice the bolded is the standard for Christians today. And the italics is the variable. Even if an unbeliever, the marriage can still work and the individual can be converted.

1Corinthians 7:10 - 13
"To the married people I give instructions, not I but the Lord, that a wife should not separate from her husband.
11 But if she does separate, let her remain unmarried or else be reconciled with her husband; and a husband should not leave his wife.

12 But to the others I say, yes, I, not the Lord:i If any brother has an unbelieving wife and she is agreeable to staying with him, let him not leave her;
13 and if a woman has an unbelieving husband and he is agreeable to staying with her, let her not leave her husband.

14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in relation to his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in relation to the brother; otherwise, your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.
15 But if the unbelieving one chooses to depart,a let him depart; a brother or a sister is not bound under such circumstances, but God has called you to peace.
16 For wife, how do you know whether you will save your husband? Or, husband, how do you know whether you will save your wife?"

Moerover, The only ground for divorce is adultery. Jesus stated at Matthew 19: 3 - 9
3 And Pharisees came to him intent on testing him, and they asked: “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on every sort of grounds?”
4 In reply he said: “Have you not read that the one who created them from the beginning made them male and female
5 and said: ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh’?
6 So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together, let no man put apart.”
7 They said to him: “Why, then, did Moses direct giving a certificate of dismissal and divorcing her?”
8 He said to them: “Out of regard for your hard-heartedness, Moses made the concession to you of divorcing your wives, but that has not been the case from the beginning.
9 I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on the grounds of sexual immorality,a and marries another commits adultery."

I support this

"And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery" (Matthew 19:9). These are JESUS' own words.

Sadly this unstable generation will do everything to justify ill actions. Marriage partner is a choice that bears consequences. Men must learn to live with the outcomes of their choices.
You're so right!. It always amazes me how these men of god twist the scriptures to justify their twisted aims.

Your pastor is looking for a way to justify his action. Let's remove St. Paul's statement to Coritians and focuse on Jesus Statement in Mathew. Jesus said that in the beginning, it was not so. God made male and female. Jesus didn't give condition for divorce. Even in d case of adultry, Jesus admonishes us to forgive because God forgives us all our sins.

The bible can be twisted to satisfy human's greedy ends. My believe is that on the judgement day, devil will deny hundreds of millions of people because he will be so surprised about the level of man to man atrocities.

Majority of us are hypocrites when it comes to the scripture, how many people does everything written in the bibble, but yet when it comes to divorce issue, you hear people quoting the bibble like they are saint. We are human I don't expect one who has tested the forbidden fruit to continue living without it.

If your right hand will take you to hell cut it off . It is better to enter into heaven with one hand than to go to hell with both. Some wicked women will pretend to be good just to get a man and later they will want to ruin your life , for me I prefer to be alive and bring positive changes to humanity than to die because of one evil marriage.

Matthew 19:9
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

Question: for the man or woman who violates this scripture, can it be said that:

1.they committed adultery

or

they are in a state of adultery

i.e
by remarrying is it just viewed as a one time act of adultery that could be forgiven if forgiveness is sought or God forever views the new union as an adulterous one(so long as they remain together, it can be said they are living in adultery)

Which is applicable pls

The portion of the scripture (1cor 7: 5-15) the pastor quoted when properly understood talks more of the concession one has whether to marry or not, the posibility of having or marrying an unbeliever spouse..., it did not talk about divorce on flimsy excuses hence, ur pastor should stop quoting the scripture out of context.
On the other hand maybe the wife committed adultery and the pastor wants to cover her shame by not telling the congregation what actually happened between him and his wife.

I guess he even quoted the wrong scripture on this.

If he made effort to reconcile but the lady insists that she is done then he is free to remarry.

(But if the husband or wife who isn't a believer insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the Christian husband or wife is no longer bound to the other, for God has called you to live in peace.)
