Employees have rights too. Even multinationals are paying ridiculous sums for transport employees while making ridiculous profit.
Senate should legislate and protect employee rights.

Employees too : there is strength in unity, stand together and fight for your right.

In the defence of Dangote

the last time I checked,, minimum wage in the country is 18,000...the complainant stated that some are paid as much as 40000, none is paid less than 20000..

so what's the fuss all about.
I wonder too ooo.
Imagine dem asking Buhari 2 probe him like he siphoned there salary wen govt isn't even paying as much, yet is unable to pay. No b day same post PhD holders dey hussle for!
They're lucky it's not an organisation like Afe Babalola's, wia u technically sign ur sack letter from disclosure day u resume.

Don't mind dem. Probe as boom everybody's slogan now.
D best they can ask 4 is 4 Buhari or other influential Nigeria to persuade him. That's all.
Moreso, I can't fathom any reason 4 probe here, cos do guy didn't reduce diabetes salary. He simply didn't increase it.

Transport staff of the Dangote Cement Company, Obajana, are at loggerheads with the management of the company over poor remuneration, threatening not to resume work until their demands are met.

The workers who barricaded the entrance gate on Friday did not allow some management staff to drive in to the premises.

The workers who chatted with Vanguard at the premises of the company in Obajana,Friday, asked President Muhammed Buhari to beam the anti graft light on the business Czar, Aliko Dangote because he is underpaying for labour, thereby exploiting them for his private gain.

They called on Presidency to implore Alhaji Aloko Dangote to implement workers’ welfare measures and look into demands for salary increment in view of the economic situation which is biting hard on their families.

A worker who simply identified himself as Chizoba said they are the ones doing the work which has rated Dangote as one of the richest in the world.

“We implore the President of Nigeria to advise Alh. Dangote to place the workers’ welfare on the front burners to ensure industrial harmony at the company. We cannot be working for one of the world’s richest men who will in turn, be paying us peanuts as salaries”, he said.

The workers said it was unacceptable for management to be paying them N20,000 naira per month when some of the management staff earn as high as a million naira per month.

They said they cannot be slaves in their own land.

“For more than 5yrs the company had been promising us increment and promotion. ”
Another staff Usman Garuba said they have been working for years in the company and the management kept promising them better welfare packages but have failed.
“The last meeting that we held with the management they promised to implement the salary increase within one week but they have failed.

“We added two days and now another one week has elapsed. We demand that a top management officer from the head office come to address us if not we are going to continue the current strike”.

The workers said they are ready to go to any length to achieve their objective.
“Some of us are taking N25000, some N30000 and some N40000. They are paying the expatriates N2M monthly. If they don’t need us let them sack us”, Garuba said.

Efforts by our reporters to get the management’s side of the story were rebuffed as they all declined comment on the issue.

These people need to find out how much the federal government pays its staff- I mean graduates oh; after that they will thank God for their own 40k per month as drivers.
I am saying this because the remuneration is so poor that people will never tell you their real take home pay. When you assess their lifestyles however, they live on multiples of their income on a monthly basis : you see the reason why corruption is here with us and will never go away....

Not sure either but I guess companies as such have social responsibilities to the communities in which they operate in since they are benefitting from the local raw materials. However, I am not sure if the president has any power to force salary upgrade.
This issue ain't abt responsibility 2 do community, otherwise known as Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR). D community ain't do ones complaining

Hmm . No!

No cos UhMm ; minding the SIZE af the LABOR CONCERNED and their dependants too , welfare matters a whole lot. That's one.

Two, can you imagine the stand-still then effect; economically , socially and even biologically when the transit af cement and other products from Dangote's stable on Nigeria is cut short?

No I guess. grin cos if you'd considered these, you wouldn't proclaim this's a spec af sand in tha whole Nigeria's mata lol

Not as much as wen oil marketers et al strike, which as happened over & over again.
Fact is, Dangote is a (priv8) businessman wu has d right to run his bizz however he wills, & with d level of unemployment in this country presently, he can decide replace dem wt ready hands & new condition of service.

I think this is a difficult position. as an entrepreneur he can do what he likes if you do not like it u leave it is not like a labor camp. u do have a choice, but u guys can have a round table and talking to media is certainly not the best way. this guy has contributed immensely to the betterment of many. u can not push him around just like that. biko

Lol. You're right but not wrong. A biznes man AF his calibre will rather find solution to this uprising than just sack everybody. Even if he's gonna replace (which is usually the case) it has to be systematic . we both are not the biznis mogul anyway lol

u know, some of these expatriate were brought in to do exactly what they know, i.e they studied for the work, hv been working the work, so they knop the work.
and then again in NG we dont hv strong enough facilites to train Nigerians in that line of work, so will u then suggest we use half baked ppl to do the work?
thats the reason expatriates are brought in.
if nigerians could handle certain things efficiently, then there would be no need for these ppl.
But i do agree with you on the overvaluing thing, expecially d amt paid to em
What do u call a foreigner that comes in, get trained by Nigerians and made the boss? Are they really expats? I doubt. They practically Learn from the staff.
They add nothing to the economy, no tax nothing. Is their paymrnt justified?
May God help our nation
