Petitioning Lagos State Government Urgent Expansion Of The Ojuelegba Bridge by ohi007: 9:50am On Sep 07, 2015
The spate of accidents involving tanker vehicles and trucks on the roads in Lagos state, Nigeria is alarming.

The latest of these events occurred on September 2, 2015 in the Ojuelegba area of the state. A container, on a 40-feet trailer, fell off the Ojuelegba bridge and landed on two cars on the road below. The occupants of the cars were instantly crushed to death, meaning that a total of four lives have been reportedly lost in this avoidable accident.

The fact is that, many Nigerian roads are narrow and poorly maintained and this is a situation that, if not urgently resolved, will only serve to increase the probability of such mishaps occurring again.

To this end, we call on the Lagos State government to urgently set about the expansion of the Ojuelegba road and ban trucks from plying the bridge or provide alternative routes for trucks plying the area and so many other sensitive roads in Lagos.

The security of the lives and properties of the citizens is the first responsibility of any government and anything that threatens this ought to be dealt with immediately.
