education is prolly the wrong word.

what we need is marketable skills. you need to learn to do something that others are willing to pay for.

It depend on what you mean by education. Most nigerians see education as just going to the university alone which is wrong. Infact informal education is the best form of education.Once you passed through nursery, primary and secondary school and you feel like you already have what you want to acheive then i don't think it's necessary to go to the university, cos it will be a waste of time and resources.

Money and Education are both ART,  [flash=200,200][/flash] wink

Checkout Gate, Dangote and some biz guys who are employer of labour, they are real time multi they understood the ART and quickly keyed into. I guess your question is Academics and Money making which is greatest?
Education mean exposure, awareness, enlightenment,

Education and money are both important things. They are essential to support our life. People may think money is the most important thing in our life. But in my opinion, Education comes first than money. They don’t know behind the power of education which makes money as an illusion.

Nowadays, people are desperate to find money which makes them think money is the most important thing. They don’t realise the power of education. Our education can lead us to become a successful people. We can achieve everything we want with the power of education that money can’t. Money can lose but education remains still in our mind.

As we know, people think without money we can’t survive. I would like to say if that’s totally wrong. People who are born with money but they aren’t educated. They definitely can’t survive. Their money is limited. They don’t know what to do when their money when is finished. But it would be different for educated people. They know they have a great asset called education. They still can survive with the asset by having a job.

Our future depends on our education. People can’t rely on money. Money doesn’t guarantee you to be a successful person, but education does guarantee. People who prefer to rely on money than education. They will soon know what real life is.

cool cool cool

Oyb is right, prolly education is not the word.
We've seen educated graduates carrying diplomas around, but no job.

What we should call it is "marketable skills". . . . .I mean, what's the point of education without the methods to use it to gain physical goods to survive?

Yea yea, education without labor won't get you your meals, you gotta use it to get what you want tongue tongue But getting money should not be prioritized wink

Money is greater - you can get education with money, but not necessarily money with education.

Without money, you cannot have education - even if you have a scholarship, someone somewhere has put down the money to pay for the education. Even if education is 'free', someone is paying for it.

Money is undoubtedly greater than education. Obviously, with education you can utilise money more effectively, but without money in the first place education in itself is useless.
Re: Education Or Money? Which Is The Greater? by Nobody: 5:03pm On Apr 06, 2009
You are not being real here or is that the level of your understanding.
LOL, how real can I get?
Ok, let me, break it down to you wink

Let me remind you that most big shots does not attend uni and thereafter, they employ graduates to work under their establishment.
Ok, I'm reminded. . . .But does that work for everybody?

Would you encourage your friend, family, etc that education is not a factor, not a necessity? hmm?
Money is the root of all evil, my friend. Would you encourage them to remain uneducated?
My friend, money comes and go, whatever knowledge you gain in the earth stays with you. What you do with it, any means you take advantage of it, may it be to gain power, money, or understanding, it's all up to you.

During this economy, we've had billionaires lose their home, their stocks, etc.
Yes, we've also had doctors, engineers, psychiatrist etc lose their jobs, but who do you think would have it easier once "the economy is back on its feet"?

Gaining money is assumed more important today in the world not even only in Nigeria, the truth must be told
phhhtttttt!! The way we go after the wealth is what matters cool cool cool As Nigeria and it's employed yahoo yahoos and scammers how it's doing.
Not saying my country is the only one doing it, but we are the most known notorious in the "gang" cool cool

Education simply upgrade our knowledge and ideas in the society and its self substance and ends once the person gives up the ghost while your establishment rolls(that is if you were opportuned to make the money and actually invested)

Ehrrrm duh. That's what I've beeng saying.
So why are you yabbing me again? undecided

Education is not common sense, obviously. It's just it's backbone. More reason why it's more important that the want of wealth. undecided

Money first jare but its more better if you could have both.

So this is what you were trying to get to?

Atleast we know where you're leading: yahoo yahoo tongue cheesy jk

Ehrrrm, if Government officials are doing what needs to be done with education system, then one needs not have money to have an education.

But of course, in Nigeria where money talks, who wants to hear a poor man? undecided

How does the government 'do what needs to be done'? Is it with Yar'adua's goatee or with money? grin

You need resources - money, to carry out any fruitful activity.

Education! Education! Education! Quite frankly, education will give you a better leverage. Education has more value than money. Money only has temporary value. Education speaks far more than money. Education defines you far more than money.

Any body can have money!!!

Not everybody can have a good education.

Think long term!!!!!!

Cheers.

Guy focus on growing that business. At least u have senior secondary education. If you want to enter any school look for one that is involved in enterpreneurship studies or a biz school to make you a guru.Forget university education IF U REALLY DO NOT NEED IT.
Re: Education Or Money? Which Is The Greater? by topup: 9:54pm On Apr 06, 2009
Yes, I believe that in Nigeria, our values have switched. We are extremely money orientated. We don't recognize anyone unless they are wearing designer outfits or look like they've been abroad. If Wole Soyinka had walked around in slippers, maybe a straw hat, and casual on the street, do you think people would have recognized or even believe that he was a noted Nigerian??

On going to holiday in Nigeria, I get more attention than the lecture in the queue next to me, because of my slightly abroad look, as soon as I wear traditional clothing, they see me as my mother's housegirl.

It makes sense in a way, and of course Nigeria isn't the only country this happens, but it's come to the point that education is nto respected. Simple as that.

I believe that anyone who has done something substantial in the field of education should at least be respected amongst their society, but it isn't the case.

Everyone wants to get their hands on money, and use education as a backup, when it should be the other way around. They go through university, but how many of them will opt to complete their education first before they take the opportunity to make a quick dollar that's in front of them.

We are shortsighted, we should be nurturing a nation of academically successful people, if we can't compete on a world wide scale, at least let us have a national scale. We don't even have that, how many people have dedicated their lives to education but you don't hear a word of them, and they still struggle in life?? It's almost like taking the more intensive route doesn't pay, and that shortcuts are the way.

I think as a nation, Nigeria should encourage academics, not only for bragging that we've done this or that, but to enrichen its people. Maybe have charities or awards that encourage people to pay attention to such people, and also have some privileges for the ones who worked hard to get where they are. Government should encourage more, I know there are some individual associations that exist but, I think it should be encouraged nationwide.
Re: Education Or Money? Which Is The Greater? by mukkk: 10:42pm On Apr 06, 2009
my guy, it depends on what u define education to be ooo, cuz tis not all about goin to uni n gettn a degree that's gon make u educated cuz if nt, then there wouldn't be people we term as educated illiterates!!!! U see ehn, the main point is for sum1 to do the right thing and act responsibly cuz even with highly-educated ppl like Maddoff u get the world's biggest fraudsters and an empire like Dangote's can't be taught in school because it's generally a way of life so you see bro aint bout which one is higher is bout using wat u hav as effectively i guess wink

in the long run the pursuit of and application of knowledge is more gainful than the pursuit of money

it is because of knowledge that serfs of today are living life at the standards of the kings of yesterday.
king george would have loved a commode, and if hes the on e i think he is penicillin.

Bill gates and co are where they are today because of the application of knowledge, not money. money is great if you are born into it, but in a education (properly applied) is a bridge to money

seems i'm rambling. . .

nigeria cannot be used as a case study, because we don't have any knowledge based entrepreneurs. most nigerian business men started as traders of goods produced by people with knowledge. .
