Onitsha as kidnappers, assassins storm town By Okey Maduforo Correspondent, Awka In the last two weeks, businessmen in Onitsha commercial town of Anambra State have been fleeing the town, following the high rate of assassination and kidnap attempts in the area. As at press time, eight businessmen had escaped the fangs of unidentified assassins with their vehicles shattered by bullets, while three others were rescued by local vigilante from the claws of kidnappers. Letters are addressed to unsuspecting businessmen to deposit between N3 to N5 million in a particular bank account so as not to be kidnapped. Osita Nwogu, who had his Prado Jeep shattered by bullets of suspected kidnappers told Saturday Independent that "they first brought a letter through courier mail, telling me to pay the sum of N3 million into a community bank (name withheld) or have myself kidnapped. I took it that they were some street guys trying to swindle people. Then I got a call that evening telling me that I should not act funny by contacting the police. They told me that I have 48 hours to do that or take whatever I see." "Early morning, around 6 a.m. I got another call, telling me that they are waiting and that I have up to 3 p.m. to pay in the money. I left my house and I did not go to the bank. So, I was heading towards Asaba when I discovered that a particular Jeep was trailing me. "Then I got another call, saying I have not paid in the money and I think running to Asaba will save me. So, I moved faster and before I could get to the Niger head bridge, they opened fire and I was lucky they over took me and ran when they saw three police vehicles escorting a bullion van." Similarly, Ako Nnoli said he and three of his business colleagues have closed shop temporarily, following the harassment of suspected kidnappers. When Saturday Independent spoke with the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Fidelis Agbo, he said investigations are in top gear, adding that the public would be duly informed on any development. Efforts to speak with some managers of banks in Onitsha prove abortive as none of them offered to speak, while some said information about lodgments were not leaked by their staff. http://nigeriaworld.com/cgi-bin/axs/ax.pl?http://odili.net/news/source/2009/apr/4/707.html |

Re: Onitsha As Kidnappers, Assassins Storm Town by Pataki: 1:18am On Apr 09, 2009 |
blacksta:Comfort is no crime fighter. Several threads in times past have alluded to that fact. Comfort is simply a personality who goes about raising threads most esp. to two particular tribes with special interest in crime and horror related stories. Comfort has been banned a couple of times on this forum as ^muda, mohadana, amongst several other tribalistic id's he/she uses. When there is apparently a crime related section, I wonder why it is so difficult for the poster to go post his/her threads in there? |

I have a feeling this comfort is earthmama in disguise |
Re: Onitsha As Kidnappers, Assassins Storm Town by Pataki: 1:31am On Apr 09, 2009 |
OgidiBoy:You are very wrong. Earthmama can type sentences for full comprehension, contribute to any argument on nairaland. Comfort never knows how to string sentences together. All he/she ever does is to use emoticons and copy and paste news articles on nairaland. |

Pataki: No vex, I just thought it was Earthmama because Earthmama also loved copying and pasting stories from the Internet, |
