They did surprisingly well in Europe for such a small club and they were very close to reaching the Champions League final in 2006, when they were stopped by Arsenal in the semis. They are yet to lose a home game in the Champions League, thus Arsenal face a difficult task. The hosts will attack from the start and try to create a good advantage before the return leg.The Submarino Amarillo were losers on the weekend in their domestic match as they fell on the road to Almeria by a score of 3-0. The result was not the only bad news for the side managed by Manuel Pellegrini as influential player Santi Cazorla suffered a fractured leg during the match and he will miss the rest of the present campaign. However, midfielders Senna and Cani have recovered and they will be fit to play, whereas Ibagaza and Former Gunner Pires returns from a domestic suspension. Rossi and Nihat are likely to start up front. Arsenal had a very slow start to the season, but they have shown a lot of improvement lately and their good run in form couldn’t have come in a better time as the Gunners still have a good chance for silverware both domestically and in Europe. They have leapfrogged Villa to 4th place, and had eliminated Roma from the top European competition. The atmosphere in the team is great at the moment, especially as Walcott, Adebayor and Fabregas have recovered from injuries and that was a big boost for the team. Adebayor scored the two goals they won Man city with, and Captain Fabregas made both assists . The Gunners won the last four games in all competitions and they enter this match in great spirits. Arshavin is not eligible to play, Van Persie, Eduardo and Diaby are also out, but Nasri could recover in time to face Villarreal. The Gunners will adopt attacking approach and try to score an away goal, which would help them a great deal in the return leg. The Gunners are doing great lately and they will have some very important players back for this clash, which makes them the favourites to go through. |

a very difficult match to predict. Villa wants revenge. The Arses are back to form. i would say maybe a draw but that wizkid Fabregas . . . nobody knows what goes on in that genius mind of his . maybe since Pires knows all their tricks' it might be to Villa's advantage. i want the Arses to qualify though, so in case Porto dont send the scummies parking, Arsenal will do just that. |

• This tie is a repeat of the 2005/06 semi-final, won 1-0 by Arsenal thanks to Kolo Touré's first-leg goal in the last European match played at Highbury – although the London club needed a last-minute penalty save by Jens Lehmann from Juan Román Riquelme in the second leg to escape El Madrigal with a goalless draw. • Villarreal's record against English clubs is: P9 W3 D5 L1. At home their record is: P5 W2 D3 L0. In those five past meetings with English opposition at El Madrigal, they conceded just one goal scored, curiously, by a Spaniard – Everton FC's Mikel Arteta. • Arsenal have lost three European finals to Spanish opposition. They lost 5-4 on penalties to Valencia CF following a goalless draw in the 1979/80 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final and succumbed 2-1 to Real Zaragoza in the final of the same competition in 1994/95 before a 2-1 defeat by FC Barcelona in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League final in Paris. |

Arsenal will be taught a football lesson tomorrow. They are poor on the road. When last did arsenal beat a good team on the road. Arsenal's away record in the past few years read: Roma 1 Arsenal 0 Fenebache 2 Arsenal 5 Porto 2 Arsenal 0 Dinamo Kiev 1 Arsenal 1 Liverpool 4 Arsenal 2 Ac Milan 0 Arsenal 2 Sevilla 3 Arsenal 1 Slavia Prague 0 Arsenal 0 Steaua Bucharest 0 Arsenal 1 making it 4 losses,2 wins and 2 draws in their last 8 away visits. Arsenal will lose 3-1 to the yellow submarines. |
