As his offer of 20,000 refugees over five years is slammed as "derisory", we look at some upsetting statistics


This week David Cameron finally submitted to public pressure and announced Britain would do more to help the millions of desperate refugees fleeing war-torn Syria.

But he's offered to take in just 20,000 refugees from Syrian camps over five years.

That works out at just 12 a day.

It's been described as a "derisory" figure by former Lib Dem leader Paddy Ashdown, who says the Prime Minister has been "tone deaf to the urgency of the situation."

And Yvette Cooper said yesterday that the figure was "not enough" and Britain had a "moral responsibility" to do more.

Syrians are caught in a perfect storm between President Assad's regime and the maniacal killers of ISIS.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based group, claims 210,000 people have been killed in the civil war between March 201 and February 2015.

Millions have fled their homes and only 3% have made the perilous trip across the Mediterranean, according to David Cameron.

Insurgents were killing people for years before the terror of ISIS swept in, leading to British airstrikes on the Islamist group.
