Ekiti State Head of Service, Dr. Olugbenga
Faseluka, has
warned civil servants to shun politics or quit the
service to
pursue their ambition.
He stated this on Monday at a press conference
in Ado
Ekiti to begin the 2015 civil service week with
the theme
“Repositioning the civil service for effective
service
delivery.”
Faseluka said, “It is my belief that the concern
of civil
servants should not be what they can gain from
the system
alone, they should also be concerned about their
contributions to the growth and development of
the state.
“The much desired restoration can only be
achieved if there
are commitments and concerted efforts by civil
servants,
who are saddled with the responsibility of
translating
government policies and initiatives into
realities.”
The HOS mentioned outstanding promotion,
outstanding
2014 August and September salaries, leave
bonuses,
pension and gratuities as some of the challenges
confronting
the civil service in the state.
Expressing the government’s determination to
ensure the
welfare of civil servants, he added that he had
got
assurances from Governor Ayodele Fayose that
the
outstanding salary arrears, pension, leave
bonuses owed
workers would be paid as soon as the
government access
the N19.6bn loan from the Federal Government.
“All arrears of pension, salaries and leave
bonuses would
be taken care of. I can’t say for gratuities for
now,” he
said.
Faseluka said the service had dismissed some
workers for
gross misconduct while one was suspended for
misappropriation in government house to
promote discipline
in the service.
