I think Buhari need not interfere in the exchange rate policy. It should be purely determine by CBN.

Military style, one day buhari will wake up and announce exchange rate by himself. "Fellow Nigerians, as from today a dollar is now N50 Naira. If you don't like it, you can move your company out of Nigeria".

You are wrong here bro. No third world country can afford to leave its economy to the market forces without any control. If Buhari leaves the naira to market forces it will devalue to 1000/ one dollar. For sure you guys will kill him for that.

Great. Devaluation is what we need right now.
This could cause or bring about higher economic growth
Exports will be more competitive and imports more expensive, thus bringing about a reduction in the current account deficit.

If we diversify our economy, we won't need to struggle like this!
And the govt back the monetary policy with a comprehensive and effective fiscal policy which would help revive our local manufacturing industry.

This was exactly thesame mindset of PDP that made them lose a lifetime opportunity and the mess President Buhari is currently struggling to clean. If this is what you will seriously do for money now I'm convinced people from your side have still not been able to produce one single upright man to make Buhari's appointment list.

It isn't just PDP.....it is the whole problem we have had since independence.

We have gotten so used to exporting raw materials....and sharing the revenue, which we use to import....that we forget that manufacturing is the key to a nation's strength.

The problem is...if we went industrial....we would initially have a hard time....before things get better. When Japan and South Korea started exporting industrial products....their initial efforts were bad.....but they improved. They went through hard times...before things got better. Nigerians do not want to work. They just want to sit down and share the money.

If you are Economic minded you would realized it will make their living standard barely better.they stil buy majorities of Life's necessities but at double or more cost in the longrun .Nigeria is an import based Economy ..Your beneficiaries will still be running the Rat Race

Rawani:
Devaluation in an import-based economy does not make much sense, imports cost more while exports bring in less (not that we are exporting much).

If our foreign reserves were not depleted, and our chance to diversify the economy during the oil price boom was not wasted by the last administration due to incompetence and greed, we would have a buffer for these hard times.

It is silly to import toothpicks in the first place, not to talk of making the process cost more.
Why are you contradicting yourself? If it is silly for us to import toothpick as you said, why then are you saying devaluation makes no sense since export will be cheaper than imports. The essence of devaluation is to discourage import in order to protect domestic industries against unhealthy competition. Haven't you heard of import substitution strategy before and its impact on industrialization?
