My IELTS score will be out by January 22nd 2016, will this be too late to register for PLAB 1 in March 15th 2016 given this will be 7 weeks before the exam? @DonPheobore, PLAB spots in Lagos really fill up fast. You may be surprised that people have already started booking slots. If you are sure you write the PLAB in March, then maybe you should consider booking soon.

Right now the best place to go is UK through plab as they need a lot of doctors, US if you dont have work permit visa or residency its very hard getting into a residency system because no one will want to sponsor since competition is fierce. It is even worse in Canada even with your PR, canada is the most difficult country to get in an practise as a doctor so guys migrating there bear in mind so you dont go there and end up been lab scientist, cab drivers or street sweepers as some of my friends.
Right now UK is very much open and they need doctors all you have to do is pass the IELTS AND PLAB exams and if after passing them and you get your GMC licence and cant get a job just send me a message and email and i can assure you of one.
Now the exams are becoming tougher and more expensive and the gates wont be open forever and UK is very unstable with policies so the earlier you jump on the boat the better. Some guys on Locum earn as much as 10k pounds monthly which is quite incredible and also compared to the quality of life.
For more information on this and more kindly send me an email to naijadocsconsulting@gmail.com.
Why waste your time in Nigeria earning peanuts take the courageous step and no pain no gain.
thanks! ll send u a mail

Good day chief!

In plain simple terms pls, what are the chances of getting employed in the UK after writing plab?
Which courses does need to know to pass plab well?
Is there still hope for young medical graduands in Nigeria.

Congrats on your induction into the profession. Maybe you should read the last 5 pages of this thread. I think you'll find some answers.

Good day fellow colleagues.
Im a post internship doctor from UNN.
Pls have a few questions for @rugged7 & naijadoc & other forumites enlightened about UK practice & PLAB. The 12k pounds monthly income what about the taxing? Wont everything a greater percentage of that money be slashed off as tax? Also what are the various ranges of payment of doctors & what could alter the salary.
Also how much good is the job security... What are the possibility of retrenchment of foreign staff without any due compensation.
Also how easy & how long does it take to get residence & work permit respectively & also migrating say ones spouse there too.
Please i need a good explanation & the real bitter truth about all these as im about taking a major life changing decision.
Your kind honest reply will be sincerely appreciated & honored.
Thanks

Apologies for not replying earlier.
Been a bit busy last few weeks

As per your questions, like somebody said above, if you take time to read al the posts on this page or even the last 6 pages, you will see ALL the answers to the same questions you are asking now.

We can't keep on repeating the same answers again and again.

However, to summarize
Nothing is easy in this world.
YOU have to go out and TAKE IT.
I don't have a crystal ball into the future, as U.K visa rules are fluid and can always change.
Even now they are trying to reduce locum pay from £20-£60/hour to lower amounts by april 2016.
It may probably be unsuccessful as they have tried it before 4-5 years ago.
Thing is, even if they succeed in reducing it, with the income you get, the quality of life is far better than in nigeria.
The only thing is that it will make you work harder.
Naija man no dey fear work naa. All na hustle...
I can't expose methods of maximizing your net income on this forum as it can also attract oversight from UK border agency and Her majesty's revenue service.
Suffice it to say, there are ways round every problem. Locum agencies will guide u.
The whole world is fluid right now, there is no job security anywhere!
Anything can happen anytime, thatz why u have to be sharp and fast and have PLANS A, B, C,D and E in case of wahala.
Your life is your own, NOBODY can make decisions for u and ur family.
I know most doctors abroad love nigeria and would prefer to stay there. BUT, they will frustrate u in nigeria. The consultants, the pay, the equipment, access to materials, electricity, transport etc
Out of curiosity, can i ask the HOUSE, how many actual successful CPR resuscitations have you seen in Nigeria in your clinical practice??
Nothing stops one from acquiring a foreign fellowship-especially now that you are young.
And still come back to Nigeria at the end of your surgeon abroad to practice in 9ja, impact on the younger ones and die a blissful death in the village.
You need a certain level of desperation and self-confidence in this search for greener pastures abroad. Not everybody can do it.

Sir rugged7 and Ben, pls provide response(s) to my question(s) above.

beneli:
@Phantom,

To the best of my knowledge the ones in the UK are not for Consultants. I understand why you think it's for Consultants given that they specified the specialties they're recruting into. But i'm sure that they're looking for service-grade junior and middle grade Doctors. There's a shortage at that level here at the moment (the Nigerian equivalent of Medical Officers). The jobs should be open to whoever can tick the boxes in the application forms! I know that it will be difficult for somebody in Naija to meet the deadline for submission and interview, but you never know.

The ones in Australia and New Zealand are open to every level and are ongoing.

Sir. rugged7 and Ben, pls also attend to my questions above.
Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by rugged7(m): 3:59pm On Dec 19, 2015
Pls, which is better between plab and usmle? We have answered this question. Read past comments on this thread

Can I take step 2 CK in Nigeria? Not sure about this. I think only in U.S. google it

While waiting for and acquainting with the US clinicals in prep for step2 CS, can one get a medical job(locum or likes) or how can one survive?
Not very sure about this. people in U,S practice can give u a better answer

I was also told that to get a locum job or similar non-training(while waiting for residence) jobs in the UK is hard. How true is this?
I seriously doubt this. Work is presently available everywhere. Depends on you

Racial differences play a role and there's no reward for excellence in the UK. How true?. I learnt the consultants under whom one works for in non-training jobs refuse their employees letters of recommendations? Some do but use derogatory remarks thus limiting ones chances?
Possibly true....Guy, your black skin will always be a disadvantage grin. But since when has that ever stopped a Nigerian
If you see oyibo people dey throw HEAVY racist shade eh, u go believe
Most will look through you like you are invisible
Some will pretend they don't notice you- That is, until u make a mistake
Then, you will know that they know ur name, age, GMC number and name of ur village 4 naija grin
Look, oyibo people are intrinsically racist and biased against blacks. They just can't help themselves. Sometimes they don't even know when they do it.
BUT, so what? Thatz life. Handle it. In fact u can often use it against them.
The caucasian race is under threat of extinction in U.K and europe.
half are heterosexual who only have 1-2 kids or none
the other one quarter are homosexual and mostly don't have kids
The remainder are nutcases, have cancer or are infertile
Asians, pakis, indians and blacks are reproducing like jack rabbits
50 years from now, caucasians could be a minority in their own countries cry
I say this devoid of hatred or bias but with the utmost sympathy for all involved...

While I am well aware that this is a forum for Medical doctors, yet I won't hesitate to ask few questions bothering me because I believe this is the best place to receive the right answers.

I am a Biochemistry graduate, done serving and I have been contemplating on returning to the University for an MBBS degree.

I said, contemplating because I am 25 years presently which means, all things being equal, I would finish medical school at age 30 going through the Direct Entry route. (I have already been admitted for the 2015/2016 session in one of the Southwestern Universities to resume early next year.)

That's why I am turning to this platform for enlightenment as per if there is 'age' discrimination when it comes to Internship and Residency in the country.

So, I need advice and probably experience of good people of this platform. And pardon my ignorance, if my question sound amateurish.

Thank you in anticipation of the responses I would receive to this.

Trust me, some peeps without a first degree finished med school around 30years. I don't think you should be worried about internship and residency now, though by the time you graduate, we will probably have more teaching hospitals which means more job opportunities. At present, there are several private, state and federal universities who are planning to build teaching hospitals/already building.

Doctors in the house, I am a graduate of human anatomy, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, I am well grounded in human structure and function, radiography anatomy and theoretical aspect of ultrasound scan, but can't operate an ultrasound machine.
I would appreciate it if I can get an hospital to learn ultrasonography. I am a fast learner and have being preparing myself for the task by studying different books on obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound.
Wouldn't mind working for the hospital free for few months.
Thanks

Have u passed the plab2 ni?
Anyway.... From MDCN...period of internship and certificate of good standing
Make sure your dates are spot on and 3 months completed per rotation. Infact be extremely meticulous with GMC. They scrutinize everything.
Any errors and they will ask u to explain. Have a plausible explanation if things are not in order + evidence.
You go get to clear all ur outstanding debt with MDCN I know people who stacked up dues hitting 400,000naira
Depends on where u have links but Abuja is the epicentre for most things. But maybe they have decentralized and u might be able to get from the regional branches.

You can get a job without clinical attachment.
But most NHS jobs might ask for U.K experience + 2 U.K referees
So clinical attachment is one of the easiest ways to get close to the consultants, get them to like u and give u references as well.
Consultants are very powerful in U.K, they can even get u a job in their hospitals
But generally the clinical attachment is a useful way to understand the system without being under pressure.
There is another option of entering with RMO...That's probably the best route to enter for a foreigner. And they like nigerian doctors well well there

It seems there are some people trying to reach me backstage...
I don't know whatz gwan with the email messaging for nairaland
U can hit me at twitter handle- schizo 5%

Thanks rugged7...for the swift reply.
Am planning on taking the plab 2 late may/early June 2016...and offcourse will have to attend either swammy or samson course,am still in Nigeria and that's why I want to get things in motion before leaving for the uk,don't want to have to come all the way back for some document or for something which I should have settled whilst still here.
Like you explained....so i will take this documents to MDCN and also pay for the letter of good standing and postage then ask them to send it to the GMC when needed?
Or will I have to still come back for this?
I would have preferred giving the exams, securing a job, having all documentations done, before coming back to nigeria for the work permit visa.
And also is it advisable to tell the UK visa office about attending the prep course?...or doesn't add any benefit to securing a visa.....I have heard of some Ppl been denied UK plab visa on some ridiculous grounds.
Thanks

Hmmm,

I would advise u not to really bother with MDCN until u pass PLAB2.
You could be using up funds u need for your u.k prep in paying for stuff in MDCN
Technically, GMC will write to MDCN when you pass. You just need to "facilitate" it from Nigeria side. Anybody can do this for you. You don't necessarily need to be physically present.
U.K visa is 6 months, so u have to try and hit the plab 2 1st time or 2nd time after that, you're on the clock with ur visa.
Either way, u have to leave the u.k b4 expiry of ur 6 months visa.
Try not to break this 6 month rule. I have seen a doctor break it by overstaying in the u.k. When he finally got a job in u.k and was given a sponsorship certificate to resume, the UKBA banned him for 1 year.

"I would have preferred giving the exams, securing a job, having all documentations done, before coming back to nigeria for the work permit visa"
All this is very possible within your 6 months visa if u try and pass the plab2 1st time.
It is extremely unlikely that UKBA will reject your application if the reason for ur uk travel is "to write PLAB exams" or "for clinical attachment"
BUT,
Oyibo people head too no correct. u can never tell sometimes with them
