Breaking News: Court of Appeal stops Saraki’s arrest

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja minutes
ago restrained the Code of Conduct Tribunal
from arresting Senate President, Dr.
Abubakar Bukola Saraki for failing to honour
its invitation.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Danladi
Umar, had on Friday directed Inspector
General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, to
ensure the arrest of Saraki and produce him
before the Tribunal today for failing to
appear in person before the tribunal to
answer questions in connection with
alleged breach of the Code of Conduct Act.

The Appeal Court, however, granted Saraki's
prayers seeking a stay of execution of the
tribunal's orders. The Senate President had
last week gone to the Federal High Court
Abuja to challenge the tribunal's summons
and both parties were ordered to appear
before the court this morning.
