Why would you want to join the Nigerian police undecided those irresponsible set of people, even if you claim you are not like that, they will influence you

By your argument only bad people should join the police right,

If the young and probably good guys don't join how will the police standards improve

Is poly and university jamb cutoff the same? Why don't we like being honest to ourselves? How many people leave secondary school wanting to go to polytechnics instead of universities? Whether we like it or not, the average university undergraduate is better intellectually than the average polytechnic student.

You cannot join the police at that constabulary level as a graduate, unless you want to use only your WAEC result. However you must know that once you enter as a graduate and become a constable, u cannot later turn around and demand to be made an officer. You will have to endure everything pple at that level endure. As a graduate, the best is for you to join the ASP cadre, or the inspectorate cadre if you are a HND holder. Hope my info helps.
why not HND For ASP as BSc since they are "same"?

If the new IGP did it in the time past, are you sure he gonna do it again? Are you sure even that subsequent IGPs will do it?

Tenderlaw is 100% correct however this does not mean you are wrong. There are instances when directives are given by new IGPs concerning promotion and welfare issues and your friend happened to be lucky to benefit from it.Sometimes, a directive could be promotion for certain officers who enlisted from certain year should go for promotion training, it doesn't matter if the person was recently promoted he/she luckily get's another chance again. These are not always by the book rules though but common sense ideas by IGPs to reduce backlogs or stuffs like that and regularise cadres.

Pls, people with useful information should share it.

For those of you that are abusing police personnels, aside from extorting money from motorists and other illegal activities. These people are really trying their best, despite the fact that they are under paying them.

Kudos to the Nigerian Police Force!!!
At Bolded: the salary structure of the Nigeria police is higher than that of civil servants in Nigeria. What I find most shocking is that majority of the officers who do routine road blockade, stop and search and routine extortion are primary 6 and WAEC holders who are pentionable and will be entitled to gratuity for life.

But they aren't grateful. These are stark illiterates with dark souls that have no compassion or pity. They lie more than criminals and are worse than armed robbers.

As a motorists, I know the soft evil of this robbers in uniform. Can any Nigerian motorist tells us the exact documents you're suppose to carry for identification?

The answer is no? The nigerian police makes sure of that. Even after the PRO of police headquarters published the list. The officers on the road demands a different thing.

I have paid for and renewed vehicle documents that are suppose to be for commercial drivers and much more.

I have paid for my own investigation and arrests and fuelling of police vehicles to procure criminal matters of misrepresentation with the police seizing the sum and forcefully taken 10 percent, despite that they are allocated fuels and they distribute it to their DPOs and other high ranking officers.

The Nigerian Police needs to go back to school. They are a disgrace. Begging money openly in street without shame.

the guy u quoted might be right only if his frnd obtained the degree while still in the force. any degree obtained before ur recruitment as a constable is a waste in NPF. bt if its gotten after been recruited, then you can be elevated to an officer in due time

That was a succinct description of the average Nigerian policeman. Completely unscrupulous and devoid of the milk of human kindness.

Let us push for police reforms. No matter how intelligent and saintly the young graduates are, once they get inside the corrupt system they will surely be corrupted by it. The police ethos is the same all over the world where there aren't enough controls, checks and balances.

The elite of Nigerian society are too busy stealing to initiate and implement tried and tested police procedures that will make the society a better place for everyone, they are only interested in the welfare of themselves and their families alone, which they pay for privately with the money they steal. It's a shame!

This is a new practice in the system. They now recognise those with higher qualification before coming out to advertise for those inspectorate and ASP Cadres. A very senior police officer told me this.
