Guy it happened live in Ilorin , it started around 2:07am(umbra eclipse) and d total eclipse occur at 3:20am when u re sleepin.
I saw it live.

point of correction, is not when the sun blocks the moon from shinning, but lunar eclipse is when the earth comes inbetween the SUN and MOON, thereby the shadow of the earth will be cast on the MOON and makes it dark(reddish)

Dear OP, the sun is a body of light itself, while the moon is an opaque mass. There is no how the sun will cast a shadow on the moon. Instead, the earth, which is opaque too, blocks sun rays from reaching the moon. The degree of the blockage determines the arc of the shadow seen.
