You know, when I told a friend about this new blackberry priv, his response was “blackberry had better stick to their OS or embrace Android completely”

The reason according to him is that old-time Android users might have no problem adapting to the new phone but how about old-time BB users?

Well, I think he was right as Chen himself unintentionally demonstrated, long time BlackBerry users might instead feel lost.

BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen in an exclusive interview with News Network gave a glimpse at a working BlackBerry Priv, the company’s first “true” Android smart phone.

But in trying to demo the smart phone that “runs Google” as Chen calls it, He is visibly seen struggling to figure out how to actually use the device, as well as probably some hints of unresponsiveness with the touch screen.

He was clearly lost as he hastily aborts an attempt to launch Chrome, with a flurry of taps and swipes leading nowhere.

After series of unsuccessful attempts to come up with something meaningful, he finally goes back to home screen where he considers opening another app before thinking better of it, opting instead to inform the interviewer that the new smartphone has “the latest specs, literally the latest Qualcomm specs, and the cameras and other good stuff.”

The question now is, Is this really the smart phone that will bring back BB users who fled in exodus?

I know that a BB running Android is a good thing but just because it is a BlackBerry Android smart phone doesn’t mean everyone will automatically fall in love with it.

What Do You Think?

If the phone is priced reasonably well I think it will be a success. The watertight security of BlackBerry combined with the flexibility & popularity of Android is a strong recipe for success.

I don't know, man.
I hate to admit it but Security and Android don't really go hand-in-hand.

You know it's not true.

Besides the man said he would only build an Android-powered smartphone if he can secure it.

Very tight as in?
It can't be rooted?
You can't do
 adb rm data/system/gesture.key
to remove the pattern lock?
You can't flash a custom recovery to reset the phone while keeping data?
You can't flash a custom boot loader or firmware?
I've been on Lollipop since it was developer's preview back in 2014.

If it's running Android OS then it's running a Linux kernel, and root is a property of *Unix.
So if you can root it, you can do whatever with the phone.

Hahaha.... I unlock a BB device, irrespective of the OS 7or 10, infact, version 10 is much easier. Same thing goes for windows OS. Do u even know that u can hack into a windows OS?
If u're in Lag, i'll hand u a LG device running on Lollipop, u cannot flash nor even boot into recovery once the device is locked and data stored on google server.
U really need to explore Android 5.
That's not the security we're even talking abt.
"Private data security", which can still be hacked into. There must always be a breach in security, that's technology for you.

I don't believe you on the BlackBerry issue, but fr windows OS, Na today?
If a passcode is present, an attacker would have to employ a chip-off or a JTAG process to dump the BlackBerry’s flash memory. Both of these methods require specialized equipment and expertise, but JTAG equipment is by far less expensive. There is software to analyze chip-off and JTAG dumps which I doubt you have access to.
Cellebrite?

 adb reboot recovery
if USB debugging is turned on,if it isn't there are physical methods to boot into recovery.

Android 5 is outdated.
M preview is the in thing.

Some androids are secure to a good extent.

4instance, my phone came pre-rooted. All I was required to do was to accept the T&C.

I gave it to a friend to make a call one day and he tried to unlock it using keys instead of my fingerprint so it locked up completely and requested for my flyme account password.

I entered the password but it was rejected. I guess it was due bad network or something like that because it said 'error in connection, try later'

I waited and waited but no change so I decided to turn it off to save battery because the phone automatically turned on GPs and other services that were draining my battery.

I couldn't turn it off so I decided to flash it instead but it didn't work.

I took it to some engineers here but same thing. They couldn't flash it.

It was two days later that I decided to charge it and try the password again, luckily it worked.

Since then I dey use am with care.
