Even if I am not ready to be anybody’s megaphone, I am ever ready to join my fellow Nigerians to be megaphones for all Nigerians.
I supported Buhari’s election to the extent that when they claimed he was going to die before the election date, I resolved that if he died no other candidate in the race deserved my vote such that I was ready to take my ballot paper to Daura and cast it for him in his grave.
A few months ago, the media had celebrated news that President Buhari slashed his salary. People saw something extraordinary with it. I disagree.
President Buhari is free to increase his salary. Other political office holders can do likewise. Our problem has nothing to do with their salaries at all. Our basic problem is equally more than general corruption. The problem is the daylight robbery some political officeholders and super public and civil servants commit against our commonwealth under the guise of security vote.
1. In some states LGA Chairman collect an average of N1, 000,000. 00K as security vote per month. And there are 774 LGAs in Nigeria
2. House of Assembly speakers collect between N50, 000,000.00K and N500,000,000.00K a month. It was widely reported a few years ago that the monthly security vote of the former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly was N500,000,000.00K.
3. Some State Governors collect between N200,000,000.00K and N1,000,000,000.00K as security vote. In Lagos it used to be in the region of N1,000,000,000.00K
4. At the presidential level it runs into billions. When the late President Yar’adua was abroad for treatment, his aides collected N70,000,000,000.00K in a space of three months, specifically November and December 2009 and January 2010. That came to an average of more N23,000,000,000.00K a month.
5. Unnecessary allowances by way of overhead cuts across all levels of government.

IF PRESIDENT BUHARI IS SERIOUS ABOUT THE WAR AGAINST CORRUPTION AND IMPUNITY, HE MUST ELIMINATE SECURITY VOTES AT ALL LEVELS.
