“we Are Suffering, We’re Starving, We’re Dying”, Bayelsa Medical Students In Rus by IROHINOodua: 2:40pm On Oct 02, 2015 |
By Alao Adenuga Young students of Bayelsa State origin who are studying Medicine in Russia are dying of hunger, starvation of funds and the threat of expulsion by the authorities of the prestigious Kursk State University in the East Europe nation. Irohinoodua obtained a copy of the letter written by the students this afternoon. Their leader, Mr Ebikewenenor who spoke to Irohinoodua said time is running out on them as the Bayelsa State Government seem to have abandoned them. The 23 students have not been paid their allowances, some running into four years, including but not limited to Winter Allowance, putting them at the mercy of icy weather. The patience of the school authority also appear to be waning with threats that they would be expel if they fail to meet up. “We have not been paid our monthly allowances for 22 months. Most of us have had to borrow a lot and are literarily begging from other international students in order to survive. Time is running out. We are dying”, a letter written by leaders of the Bayelsa State Scholarship Students Union in Kursk stated. The letter was signed by the President, Botu Ebikewenenor, Secretary, Perasuodei Taripaladel and the Public Relations Oficer, Mark Azibabhom. The 23 students said they have sent emissaries to government officials and the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson without success without success. “We have not been paid allowances for up to 4 years like book, clinical, winter and health allowances.” The students said the payment of their tuition fees has not been regular. “Right now as at the date of this letter, we have been driven out from class due to the non-payment of our tuition fees for this present academic year. We have not only been stopped from attending classes, the University has also threatened to expel us very soon because even our last semester tuition fees has not been paid. We are suffering, we are starving, we are dying”, the students said. An official of the Nigerian Human Rights Community, (NHRC) Mrs Stella Adeyemo in a chat with our correspondent said her group had written several letters to the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson on the plight of the students but that the NHRC did not even “receive the courtesy of a reply.” |

They should come back home. Niger Delta University is in Bayelsa, and they have Medicine there. They should not expect Buhari, to shoulder Jonathan ' s senseless luggage. Part of my Schooling was done in Europe, and as a confirmed Kpako. Nobody sponsored me, I did everything to meet up my financial obligations in School. These guys are just being lazy. 2 Likes 1 Share |
