Hello house. I bought a used phone on amazon. When it arrived here in Nigeria and I put in my sim it did not work. I checked online and the imei has been blacklisted by t-mobile.

Please is there any solution for this problem? Can I unlock it or have the imei changed? I can't return the phone because the cost of shipping it back is very high.

Is the phone unlocked?

@Lexusgs430 yes, it's supposed to be an unlocked phone. I did a google search and it seems the last owner didn't complete his payment plan. I think changing the imei is the way to go but I don't know how or who can do it.

Some American phones are band specific, have you tried all network providers sim cards?

are you saying blacklisted or locked? they are 2 different things

im afraid,if its the former,the phone is actually a stolen phone and has been reported to the carrier so the imei has been blocked and sorry to tell you this,if its not returned to the carrier,thats the end of the phone...is it stuck on select language mode?

if its not unlocked,thats better,you can take it to computer village,with 2k,an engineer will do that for you

I just can't use the telephony functions like SMS and phone calls. Do you have the contact of any reliable person I can contact in computer village?

I would suggest you try other networks, before contemplating changing phones framework(assuming phone is already unlocked).

The seller probably sold you a locked phone as unlocked. Contact the seller and request for a refund enough for unlocking the phone. Blacklisted phones work very well in naija

@idokojerry thanks. I haven't tried unlocking yet. When I saw blacklisted imei online I was very panicked.

Unless you are planning to use it abroad, IMEI blacklisting is not yet active in Nigeria. Look for other problem with the phone, not blacklisting. I have had a phone that worked perfectly in Nigeria only to find out that it was blacklisted in the UK.
