Osun Lecturers Condemn Planned Merger Of Tertiary Institutions by traction: 6:16pm On Oct 03, 2015 |
Lecturers in four tertiary institutions owned by Osun State Government have frowned at the alleged move by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to merge the institutions due to the financial crisis the state is facing. Reports making the rounds in the state suggest that the governor has ordered the chairmen of the governing councils of the four institutions to work out how the merger would be carried out. The lecturers, who are members of the Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun State-owned Tertiary Institutions, in a communiqué made available to our correspondent on Friday, said the move would rather create more problems for the state than solve its financial crisis. The schools in question are: Osun State Polytechnic, Iree; Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke; and Osun State Colleges of Education, Ilesha and Ila-Orangun. The communique was signed by the CASUOSTI Chairman, Lasisi Jimoh and Secretary, Olusegun Lana. It read, “Council frowns at the clandestine move of the state government to merge the two state polytechnics and the two colleges of education and describes it as an ill-advised, laughable, non-progressive and obnoxious policy that will only complicate the sufferings of the masses. Council hinges this opinion on several premises including the following: the existing institutions are not sufficient to meet the demand for tertiary education in the state. The merger would result in heavier collateral wastage of the ongoing massive physical and human resource development which is at no cost to the state government but fully sponsored by the Federal Government through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.” http://www.punchng.com/news/osun-lecturers-condemn-planned-merger-of-tertiary-institutions/
