HARDDON: Musings of a religious mind. And that's practically the bane of religion. It's a very primitive characteristic of man to attribute whatever they can't understand to be supernatural. Heck, they even have a name for it. It's called "miracle". When they didn't understand the physics of sound, they called the fall of the wall of Jericho a miracle. Now, they know better. Science has an answer for a lot of questions now. And that's the characteristic of the modern man. Science has not come into the fulness of its being, it is still evolving. Even your bible attests to the fact that the God you intend to defend so graciously has attested to the fact that man may one day be like God. Science is a vessel to that possibility. Look at the Tower of Babel. The scientific mind of man at that point seemed to be a threat to your God. To the extent that he had to disrupt the job at hand. See Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. They had to be driven away because they would soon be like God. Inasmuch as I would not disrespect your belief in your God, I will want you to open your mind to the possibility that the God you serve is a Scientific being, whose knowledge of science has transcended mortal man....but it is Science nonetheless. He has conquered aging, and thus you call Him the Ancient of Days. He has conquered distance, so you call him Omnipresent. He knows more than the knowledge of modern man, so you call him Omniscient. But that doesn't mean it's not all science. Why do you think the present world is at the point where everyone thinks it's going to end? It's that same threat that happened in the Garden of Eden. Man is knowing roo much. So, dear friend, your God is a scientific being. And questioning him and things that have happened before, that people call "miracle" is normal. And what everyone should be doing. It does not mean you disrespect God. It might even mean you want to understand him so that you can love him more. 4 Likes 3 Shares |

raayah: Unfortunately for you madame you selected what you thought is the weakness of the verse. You did not read from the beginning of what transpired before it gets to verse 22-23. Read the whole chapter please. If you are trying to confuse people may the Lord judge you. If you are questioning because you need understanding please read the whole Chapter. Here is Deutorocanonical version. To me this was to prove the innocence of a woman suspected of adultery and carrying another mans child. They would make the woman swear under Oath, if the the woman was innocent, the pregnancy would stay and if the woman was guilty she would miscarry. Which is what some cultural villages do to prove innocence. This was in no way abortion. Cases of Wives with Suspicious Husbands 11The Lord commanded Moses 12-14to give the Israelites the following instructions. It may happen that a man becomes suspicious that his wife is unfaithful to him and has defiled herself by having intercourse with another man. But the husband may not be certain, for his wife may have kept it secret — there was no witness, and she was not caught in the act. Or it may happen that a husband becomes suspicious of his wife, even though she has not been unfaithful. 15In either case the man shall take his wife to the priest. He shall also take the required offering of one kilogramme of barley flour, but he shall not pour any olive oil on it or put any incense on it, because it is an offering from a suspicious husband, made to bring the truth to light. 16The priest shall bring the woman forward and make her stand in front of the altar. 17He shall pour some holy water into a clay bowl and take some of the earth that is on the floor of the Tent of the Lord's presence and put it in the water to make it bitter. 18Then he shall loosen the woman's hair and put the offering of flour in her hands. In his hands the priest shall hold the bowl containing the bitter water that brings a curse. 19Then the priest shall make the woman agree to this oath spoken by the priest: “If you have not committed adultery, you will not be harmed by the curse that this water brings. 20But if you have committed adultery, 21may the Lord make your name a curse among your people. May he cause your genital organs to shrink and your stomach to swell up. 22May this water enter your stomach and cause it to swell up and your genital organs to shrink.” The woman shall respond, “I agree; may the Lord do so.” 23Then the priest shall write this curse down and wash the writing off into the bowl of bitter water. 24Before he makes the woman drink the water, which may then cause her bitter pain, 25the priest shall take the offering of flour out of the woman's hands, hold it out in dedication to the Lord, and present it on the altar. 26Then he shall take a handful of it as a token offering and burn it on the altar. Finally, he shall make the woman drink the water. 27If she has committed adultery, the water will cause bitter pain; her stomach will swell up and her genital organs will shrink. Her name will become a curse among her people. 28But if she is innocent, she will not be harmed and will be able to bear children. 29-30This is the law in cases where a man is jealous and becomes suspicious that his wife has committed adultery. The woman shall be made to stand in front of the altar, and the priest shall perform this ritual. 31The husband shall be free of guilt, but the woman, if guilty, must suffer the consequences. 3 Likes |

raayah:fact is, there are no direct answers weather abortion is a sin or not in the bible but I do hear that abortion can take place automatically so is there a difference between voluntary and involuntary abortion? the answer is YES just like a difference between killing yourself(suicide) and getting killed. Abortion could be a sin and it might not but you NOT aborting is never a sin. |

The rate at which people twist bible verses to back up their selfish point is alarming today. Those bible verses talk about the punishment that a woman who commits adultery will face and somebody is using it to back up abortion. @op, are u an adulterous woman or do u want those curses to come upon u? Please respect God and His word. |

My brother the Bible does not support abortion, the passage of the Bible you referenced is talking about a curse that is put upon women or ladies that defile themselves through sex with a man that is not their husband. God is not an author of confusion. Also the same God that gave Moses the commandments is the same God today and will remain the same forever. God does not change like man. |

I personally do not see where the verse permits abortion or not. What I read is a miscarriage, the result of a curse. However, it is important to understand that the Jews at the time were a stone hearted and rebellious people who had to be tamed so the LORD could achieve his purpose through them. The Law of Moses was given to the Israelites when they were still a band of ex-slaves struggling to survive Hence, the plethora of rules and regulations to guide their every way of life. Like life in those times, many were harsh and cruel compared to the teachings of Jesus By the time of Jesus, the great moral principles God had given to Moses in the Ten Commandments had been turned into hundreds of ceremonial rules. People thought they were living holy lives if they just obeyed all those rules. But Jesus disagreed. He said people found enough "loopholes" to obey all the rules and still live wicked and greedy lives With the coming of Christ, God has established a new covenant with mankind (Jeremiah 31:31-34, Luke 22:20, 1 Corinthians 11:25, Hebrews 8:8-13, 9:11-15). Jesus and His apostles gave us a radically new understanding of the true intent of the Old Testament Law; they brought a new era of the rule of love for all people and spiritual truth instead of rule by law (Luke 10:25-28, John 13:34-35, Ephesians 2:14-18). The teachings of Jesus, make it clear that Christians are not required to follow the Old Testament rules. Yes Christians still look to the Old Testament scripture for moral and spiritual guidance (2 Timothy 3:16-17). But when there seems to be a conflict between Old Testament laws and New Testament principles, we must follow the New Testament because it represents the most recent and most perfect revelation from God (Hebrews 8:13, 2 Corinthians 3:1-18, Galatians 2:15-20). However, freedom from the Old Testament Law is not a license for Christians to relax their moral standards. The moral and ethical teachings of Jesus and His apostles call for even greater self-discipline than those of the Old Testament. http://www.christianbiblereference.org/faq_OldTestamentLaw.htm 1 Like |

raayah: Nope, remember those times there was no modern technology ( DNA tests ) to prove paternity. If a man doubted paternity, there was no other way to prove or disprove paternity. So paternity was proven through a Godly Oath. If the pregnancy stayed after the Oath that meant God agreed that the woman was telling the truth. It the woman miscarried, that meant God disapprove and the woman was telling a lie. Just like in some African cultures, they could only prove paternity through certain rituals. If a baby did not get sick after a ritual, that meant the baby was at the right place ( family ) but it the baby got sick after a ritual, that meant the baby was not theirs and the mother would have to tell the truth. No where it was said it was aborted. It was a way of discouraging adultery and encouraging telling the truth. Read from the beginning. 1 Like |
