Igbole Ekiti Launches Platform that aims at Restoring Values, Virtues and Ekiti Spirit into Education

Igbole Ekiti, a community known for her intellectual prowess and academic alacrity, will hold the maiden edition of her life-transforming and value re-orientation programme at Ojo Ugbole High school on October 9th, 2015.The home town of Africa’s first Professor of Geo-Physics shall once again witness the return of the spirit of academic giants as educational icons in the community will return to class to share their experiences and insights with students, parents and teachers of Ojo Ugbole High School.

Tagged ‘Igbole Ekiti Educational Link Forum’; a platform whereby educational icons in the community will come together with the students under the same roof where the former will share their success stories and factors that helped them succeed with the latter, with the aim of transferring values, virtues and vision into the current generation that has destroyed the image of the state as the ‘Fountain of Knowledge’.

Speaking on the need to restore values, virtues and the spirit of excellence into the young ones, Mr. Oluwagbohunmi Aduralere said that, ‘the fundamental problem that is confronting education sector in the state today is that; our students have lost touch with the value of excellence, virtue of commitment and the vision of making Ekiti the intellectual capital pool of Nigeria”.

He also argued that, these social currents are the latent factors that helped the likes of OjoUgbole, the first Professor of Geo-Physics in Africa; Prof.Olubumo, the first professor of Mathematics in Nigeria and others to reach the pinnacles of their careers despite the fact that they all studied under harsh and dehumanising conditions.

In his words, “the older generation lacked all the basic infrastructures and conditions that could help them succeed, yet, they were all operating at more than 1000 per cent on the intellectual scale. In contrast, the current generation has access to good schools, books, good cloths, good curriculum, and the most important infrastructure in the twenty first century which is ‘the internet’, yet, they are operating at less than 30 per cent on the intellectual scale because they lack values, virtues, and vision”, he says.

The situation calls for a quick fix. Igbole Ekiti which is reputed and regarded by many as ‘the home of erudite scholars’ has therefore resolved to engage some of her educational icons to transmit values and virtues into the young ones through this interactive forum. Some of the speakers for the maiden edition of the forum include; Chief Anthony AdebowaleAshaolu, a first class historian and a retired principal; Professor Kola Ojo of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta and Dr.OlurotimiOjo, the current Honourable Commissioner for Health in Ekiti State among others.

In addition to the forum, some of the value-added activities for the day include; introduction of ‘Competitive Book Clubs, inauguration of Ojo Ugbole Scholar’s Award for the best Student of OjoUgbole High School, recitation of poem and a short drama, titled, ‘Introducing Professor Ojo Ugbole’ and many more

The programme is a community’s effort aims at restoring the lost glory of the state, and it is being sponsored by Mr. Sunday Moses, Mrs.OluwakemiElemo, Mr. Tope Owolabi, Mr.GboyegaBamgboye, Mrs. Margret Akinola, Mr.RotimiAromolaran and Mr.WoleBamgboye.
