Y'all should try to understand each other and not throw jabs (I wonder why you even enjoy that undecided). Dru is based in USA, and every mechanic there is competent, thus making him carry the same mentality to Nigeria that any mechanic (roadside or otherwise) should be competent. My guys here for Naija knows better about Nigerian mechanics that not all are good (as a matter of fact, you have to try many to find a competent one). Since Dru have experienced lots of incompetency, he has made up his mind about certain things. I think we should see his point of view even if we don't see his point.
Mr Dru, I think you should also be calming down ooh. Don't go start thinking Nigerians are incapable, no, we are not, na our leaders dey draw us back. You will be shocked at what we can do under the right circumstances and with the right tools. For example, how many mechanics do you think are able to afford a torque wrench, which they need badly They will always want to improvise.
So next time, please ask those on ground and don't just condemn us, it actually makes some people agitated. And from what I've known on Nairaland since I've been visiting since about 2011 or so - No be everybody sabi take/absorb words for understanding.

Unfortunately alot of you guys here on nairaland read, but fail to read without understanding.. You guys tend to read with either 1 eye or with two eyes close

The issue of mechanic came up with hybrid cars.Somone wanted to get my opinion on hybrid cars especially prius. I stated basically not in nice way coz am not here to please anyone , that it is not a good idea coz Nigerian mechanics are not skilled enough to work on them , and even if they are skill enough they are not too many of them to handle ..

It will not make sense for you to drive down from Ogun state to Lagos to look for an Hybrid mechanic.. That is not counterproductive at all .. There is a lot of cars petrol cars like Acura Mdx ,Ford cars, Volvo and some Japanese cars that local mechanics are still struggling to learn and fix ..mechanics in Nigeria are still learning work and most don't have the correct tools to do the job etc ..

Nigeria mechanics will you tell certain cars are good because that his the only cars they know how to fix and anything else is bad .. People bring in cars based on Nigerian mechanics skills on how to fix them etc . Some cars out there are actually good ,but not enough mechanic that know how to fix them , and you think I will advice someone to bring in hybrid cars...

There was an article years ago that I read how wealthy Nigerias will cargo their luxury cars overseas for regular maintenance check and fix..

In my past post I stated that USA mechanics are crazy too ,and even some car dealership mechanics are careless and they can mess up your car ..

I stated that when I got my Infiniti g25x , I took it to a white middle class to upper class mechanic shop neighborhood area .. I refuse to take my car to ghetto area shops ...

If any mechanic here is offended, it is because they lack confidence in themselves.. If you are good at your job you will ignore my comment and keep doing what you doing..

Most cars owners have trust issues with mechanics . And most will not leave their cars overnight at a mechanic shop..

Good day to you all.
I discovered an alternative route yesterday at tge discretion of my rider.
From Ikeja to Alapere; Ketu was jammed as usual, so we followed Ogudu.
It was hellish crossing to the other side via Ogudu bridge, the express was also at a standstill.
So instead of turning left back to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, we went straight down Agboyi road, climbed another bridge and i found myself at the heart of Alapere in a jiffy.
So next time you find yourself in same chaotic traffic, make use of this route.

Argue? I don't do that, sorry to disappoint you. Now, I've not done a census of the number of mechanics in Lagos or anywhere but I can tell you that there are thousands of them. Quick question, how many have you tried?
Nobody says you shouldn't state the facts, but you go a long way to condemn. I guess it makes you happy!

You fail to be objective and fail to read and understand. Condemn or constructive criticism......

My views are more of constructive criticism, than of condemnation

Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional

Oil dey your head. Good calculation!
kanuisagoat:
Bolt is extremely smart with this method of rating that uses an average of 40 trips. The model makes it very easy for your ratings to drop and very difficult to rise. I'll explain why.

Let's say your last 38 trips were smooth with 5 star ratings but rider 39 and rider 40 gave you 1 and 2 stars.

Your total rating is (5*38) + (1×1) + (2*1) which equals 193. This gives an average rating 4.83 when divided by 40.

Now this is where it gets interesting. Let's say your next 10 riders gave you 5 star each. What bolt will simply do is remove the first 10 5 stars you got and replace with this latest set of 5 stars.

Guess what? Your total rating is still 193 and your average will remain at 4.83. For you to experience any increase in rating, 39 riders must give you 5 stars. The 39th rider who gives you a 5 star will now push out the 1 star the previous rider 39 gave you.

Total rating will now be 197 calculated as (5*39) + (2×1) with an average of 4.92.

This explains why you'll see people complain that riders are giving them 5 stars but ratings don't improve. Its the bolt model and is designed to crawl when rising and to drop as fast as possible.

***I hope my explanation is clear, thats the best I was able to do. Ayam not a teacher.****

Update on my car with p0500 code. After replacing the VSS, no change I returned the former one. I tied my Abs sensor loosed wire. And kept using the car like that for the rest of Dec. I also changed one shaft head that was bad to the Abs type. I was on a trip last week and discovered that my steering was back to normal. Speedometer working, fuel gauge doing well. In short, everything back to normal. I scanned again and cleared the p0500 code. It never retunred since then. The Abs light too disappeared for some hours. But came back later.
Till, now, no issue again. Car drives smoothly. Thanks to those who offered to help. Gazzuzz, remember we spoke on the phone. I didn't bother calling you as you told me cos of the festive season. Thanks too bro.

They rate using the last 40 trips. Very very unfair system designed to make drivers lick the ãss of their riders...but hey it's their platform and they just trying to make money

What is abominable is the less than adequate verification/ID system they use for riders, that has cost a lot of drivers their very lives. It's very easy for criminals poorly documented riders to register on the platform for the sole purpose of robbing and/or killing the drivers.

The offroad network coupled with traffic and the fact bolt does not guarantee transactions only means that drivers are getting ripped off as a standard...you risk life and limb and your car gets junked out by the time you've recovered the cost of it, you only make money when you are able to unload that dead car on a gullible/desperate buyer

A whooping 1 hr (likely more) for less than 2k. Probably with bad roads, yet she is asking for charger?

Indriver should block riders with rating less than 4, they will turn it to another bolt service

I still don't understand who cursed this country to this extent.
I just dropped off two ladies fresh graduates 1hr ago.
As we were on the trip one of them's phone rang.
The caller was asking her to pay a sum of 1.5m before she can get the N65k Monthly federal govt job offer she is seeking.
The other lady responded; is she mad? Why will she have N1.5m and still be looking for work?
I just dey imagine this madness since till I got home
