You completely miss the point. I am not comparing us to public transport vehicles. I am saying that, because public transport is too cheap in the country, there's a limit to how high Bolt/Uber can put their fares.

Were you not the one who stayed under surge for 45 minutes and didn't get a request? Why do you think this was so? The fare was too high and most people who would have used bolt went for public transport. Is that what you want? Waiting for 45 minutes in one place because you want to earn more?

I once carried a guy who said he wanted to go out on a particular day. He fired up his app to book and saw a very ridiculous price due to surge. He waited and waited for the price to do down and it didn't so he just took off his clothes and slept at home. Many others in his shoes would have done the same thing or used public transport.

Some of us sometimes complain of waiting at a place for one hour with no request. What do you think will happen when the fare is increased?

The right thing to fight for is reduced commission. That way, we keep our riders and we the drivers make more money. Bolt has already been surviving with an effective commission of 10% when you discount bonuses. They should just take off the bonus and leave the commission at 10%

That is why most drivers are on indriver not because of the price but because of the commission. I totally agree with you I feel the drivers should fight for reducting in commission than increment with fair price, we still have some people that alll join money together to enter uber or bolt cause they cant afford it and the economy is not getting better so people will prefer public transport than uber or bolt

The fact remains, no investor can recoup 2.4m in 24 months, please if you've or have seen somebody who did kindly come forward or bring the person forward with evidence let's give such person an award.

I wonder what people gain by misleading the public with false data. You bought a car that's more than 15yrs old and as done at least 80k-miles and you are telling me you used same car for transportation business in Lagos for 6months without fixing a damn thing, not even a change of tire, bolt or nut or even wiper? Ok... Kuku say you didn't buy fuel na.

The thing shock me too o grin

In my 6 months on ehailing, I've changed hub twice( same side) changed linkage, control arm bushing, changed battery, bought a fake oil that caused sludge so the engine had to be opened and cleaned, changed bulbs numerous times(I don tire to change this one), changed brake pad, had exhaust leaks a couple of times I've had to fix.

So I will be shocked if any car manages to cover as much miles as I've covered in 6 months without needing any major repairs.

Exactly

Sometimes a trip ends N1500 and the next thing you hear is, sir, I just sent you 1000, ill give you 500 naira cash. The N1000 naira is probably all he has in the account. People are struggling to pay the current fare.

I know because the day my vehicle was not available, I could not justify the price I saw on bolt and ended up using public transport despite having promo of 40% or so.

Your earnings and welfare remain our number one priority, and our commitment to ensure that you continue to earn the best while driving with Bolt remains unchanged.

Recent Pricing and Categories Changes

Following the countrywide increase in Fuel prices in September 2020, Bolt Lagos announced changes in its prices & categories in Lagos to accommodate the new and expected fuel price as well as the resulting increase in operations cost for drivers, to ensure drivers who choose Bolt can continue to receive the best earnings in the city.

The Lite category was replaced with the Bolt category, ensuring that drivers earn 10% more than they did in the Lite category.
The Corporate category was introduced to meet the needs of professional and business passengers who want service quality guarantees at a premium price. This category also ensures that all drivers who maintain an average rating of 4.8 earn 15% more than on the deactivated Lite category, and an additional 5% more than the Bolt Category.

Bolt continues to offer the best earnings in Lagos

Our pricing model remains dynamic and is reviewed based on changes in market forces. Since the September 2020 countrywide increase in fuel price, there have been no new official changes in the pump price of Fuel in Lagos.

With our continued investment to get more riders and dynamic pricing when there is increased demand, there is no better time to take advantage of the increased orders and bonuses to further boost your earnings. These changes and more ensure that top drivers in Lagos earn up to ₦89,000 per week before bonuses!

In addition to ensuring the best earnings in the city while driving with Bolt, you also have access to many benefits and perks

Free ridesharing insurance that protects ALL drivers and passengers, all the time while on a trip with Bolt. More info here.
Monthly Fuel reward cards worth ₦45,000 per card for top drivers. More info here.
Long-distance fares which increase your earnings on longer trips
Free health insurance for top drivers
Weekly bonuses for all drivers.
Paid Wait Stop For Multiple Destination Rides.
24-Hour Support
All these perks affirm our commitment to remain the most profitable and driver-friendly platform for you.

I dont think a rider can. For us drivers, once a trip does not occur, you can't even get in touch with the rider from the app. I think it's the same for them.

Same with mi, I mostly go on public transport when I don't drive.
I will not be part of the protest because it will only make things harder for both the riders and drivers at the long run. I think drivers should fight for a better rating system and identity of riders to should be in full from their home address to their id cards so in case of theft and robbery they can be fished out

That you haven't seen it or haven't experienced it doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

First off, it was before the 40percent price crash.

Secondly, I worked with a strategy and not blindly, which means I didn't have to stress the car or abuse it. The island was (and is) still a pretty good place because there weren't much drivers like there are now, which means more trips within the island. You could net 10k without going past V.I and of cause remittance was between 40 to 50k back then.

You need to understand say Tokunbo get grade and owner was one with a knack for pristine vehicles tokunbo or new.

Have a free spirit man, learn to relearn and unlearn.

If d owner is d one driving, he definitely can recoup his investment in 1year.
If investor is doing HP he can recoup 2.4million in 24months.
I don't get, can't u do HP of 3m in 2yrs?

And Yes, u can actually drive a tokunbo car on ehailing for 6months without doing any repairs or buying tyre. Let's top generalizations for things that are completely subjective and experiential.

My red colored civic ... I bought it tokunbo with 90k miles at the time ... The first 6months I never had any issues, all I did was oil change .........The most I spend on repairs can't be up to 60k naira .........

When it comes to auto parts the most important thing is getting quality parts . once you are able to get good quality parts , than your repairs and downtime will reduce ....

I have replace the same parts over and over again .. I wasted money . And this is due to low quality parts and incompetent mechanics.......

Can you believe with the civic I have never change the a/c compressor before .. And this is because I used the imported freon .........

if owners can go the extra mile to take care of their cars by buying quality parts. It will save them time and money in the long run

Any driver not joining the proposed strike is selling his future and future of his generation to come to riders and the app companies because these are the once on the winning side.

That’s why politicians keep manipulating us in Nigeria, no unity , some selfish and greedy drivers will snitch.
I’m just observing and will see drivers that will misbehave today. Some are already against it online. Let the app coy and riders get d message.
Their orientation and ways of treating drivers will change a little.

Hypothesis 1: Let's assume 1.9surge is constant for one month, which means an increase in price and I'd wait for 45mins to get a request.

Hypothesis 2: There's no surge constantly for a month and i dont have to wait for more than 5mins to get a trip.
Which of the hypotheses do you think will benefit drivers more?

Keep in mind that hypothesis 1 will reduce cost of fuel, extend oil change intervals, reduce wear and tear of car.

You are right that some people will leave Bolt/Uber to jump public bus if there's increase in price but some of those people will still come back anytime they need that confort that e hailing gives them and they will squeeze out the money to pay for the service.

Na because of card trips. I later realized that I did all cash trip last week thanks to drivers that rejects card trips. Most riders changed from card to transfer.
I would prefer to do all card trips every week.
Now I’m owing bolt. Mshhewwww
