I'm finally back on the roads again hustling after absence for over 3 weeks. I had an accident on third mainland bridge ,thank God for life, nothing happened to the passenger and me. But vehicle was badly damaged, I needed to spend close to 200k on the vehicle ,I.e whole body painting and panel beating. Note that I bought two new headlights and some other body parts of the vehicle.

I was on a trip when the Accident happened so I made a report about the accident to BOLT ,thinking they have some kind of plans for accident issues during trips on their platform.

Bolt made it clear to me that nothing of such exist, that they only take care of reported missing items during trips. They blocked my account immediately and asked me to do another inspection when my Car is ready.

I asked if at least they will give me a free Inspection after I'm done with the body work of my Car, and their answer was that there won't be such, that I will be responsible for payment of the new inspection.

I regretted ever reporting the Accident to them in the first place. My inspection report was still valid for another 3 months ,but I needed to do another one yesterday.

Has anyone ever reported an accident to Bolt/Uber and what was there response?

Sorry about your ordeal bro and thank God for life.

One question please, did you do accident investigation after the accident? What cause was discovered? Bad driver or vehicle fault? this is important because it will help prevent future occurrence and also for others to learn as well.

You did the right thing by reporting the accident to Bolt, N1200 or thereabout shouldn't be the issue here but how well your car performs after the fix is what really matters. Its their policy so they've to protect it. Inspection has to be done once an accident is reported either by driver or rider.

Its also sad or rather unfortunate that these ehailing companies shy away or wash their hands like Pontius Pilate when issues like this happens because I cant imagine how a company like Bolt/Uber don't have insurance policy for drivers who especially drive on a full time scale, paying hundreds of naira weekly to them yet same driver bares the risk alone when things goes south.

I'd a minor accident in 2019 with the civic, the one i shared here some times ago that the bike guy ran under my car, no injuries, no dent, just little and fint scratches. Base on the newbie I was I ignorantly reported to Uber and the next day I was about setting out I noticed my account was blocked, I shoud go for another inspection. After a few mails via their help channels I was asked to take a snap short on a template sent to me and my account was unblocked within few minutes.

I didn't border reporting the one that happened on college road afterwards...

Best advice is, gather some money, sell that car then buy another one and then insure the car because i can't imagine myself driving a cat that almost took my life.

Costain Roundabout: The case of Apapa road

Coming from Bayo Shodipo service lane, (that is, you are not climbing Alaka to connect Eko bridge )

Sometimes Gmap misbehaves and tells you to exit the roundabout to go to Apapa road., in this wise, the Apapa road, I'm talking about is the one at Ebute- Metta, ( the road that directly leads you to Oyingbo).

Let's say , you mistakenly took the 1st exit on the roundabout instead of the 3rd, ( and you just discovered, you were supposed to take 3rd exit, and not the 1st.

1st exit - Abebe village road, surulere, festac, Apapa, orile bound.

2nd exit - Eko bridge. VI, island, Lekki bound.

3rd exit- Apapa road, Ebute meta.

The pitfall.
To go back to the roundabout. There are TWO turnings by your left.

Do NOT enter the FIRST ONE., the FIRST ONE(it becomes the 2nd on the Left) is for those coming from Festac,Orile side, who want to turn back but don't want to use the roundabout.

The SECOND ONE on the left is yours (tip: easy to spot. The road directly cuts the railway and leads straight to Nigerian breweries.

Often, those two short road stretches are often empty periodically (so an inexperienced driver won't have vehicles to use to determine the direction of traffic). He/She might likely become a victim of the lapses of the LASG traffic signage unit.

LG touts hang around, (I noticed some MIB also lay ambush there too) grin waiting for the next prey.

No signage at all, please be guided.

This is free advise for those of us driving in Lagos

You guys should stop all these crap talk... What's defensive driving per say? Will it stop the guy behind to hit your back bumper even in traffic? No!
Will it stop a drunk from hitting a car parked on the side way? No!!
Will it stop the danfo, kerupe or dispatch rider from taking one side of your mirror while in traffic? No!!!
How about the guys that drive against traffic light, some of them still move even when the light if red, will it stop them from running into you? No! Just pray to be lucky. Even F1 drivers do have accident... Didn't Paul Walker died while driving? Then who's that idiot that believe in defensive driving? Goats!

One idiot who doesn't even know anything about driving or has ever travel out of the country or state either by road or air is coming to say defensive driving as if he has never been hit or has hit a car before and you guys are here singing his praise like worshipers of igbe. Nonsense!

If you're a driver and has never encountered an accident of any kind b4 then you're yet to be called a professional. Challenges makes us as humans stronger and better. The only thing I pray is "God please always give the right state of mind at all time to take the right decision" when ever I'm behind the wheel because a wrong decision can result to a serious accident that can even claim lives. And I thank God he has always been there for me.

So nothing like defensive driving, rather look, think, re-look and re-think again before taking a decision while driving

Today is a very bad day for me as the first day of starting bolt. I got a ride to ikeja and along Ikorodu Road, my vehicle failed brake. I hit two different cars at the back as a result of that, I had to drive on the service lane and avoided speeding. This is a vehicle
I have been driving without any issue. The rider I carried was quite understanding. I finally arrive at the destination and called a mechanic around there to check if it was the brake pad, he checked and said the brake pads are still new that the problem was the master brake that was bad, he later helped me to adjust it so I could go back on getting to where I was supposed to pickup another rider, I entered Lastma problem. A very sad day for me.

What's the essence of increasing the wideness?

Are you aware wideness reduces speed. Hight is is only needed but also reduces balance especially during turns.

I remember an incidence in Ogume, Kwale in Delta State myself and my right hand man Bobby the Eku man were traveling back to Abraka from Abia State for a burial... I forget I'd gotten to the sharp bend surrendened with swamps... I was doing 140km/h with my V6 accord... Men... na God no be me on that night... Sorry bro, hope your car wasn’t towed or locked up.
Just brace up and resume work tomorrow but be extra careful and prayerful. All of us have had bad experiences on the job, especially when we started.
The only way to recover your money is to keep driving.

LESSON LEARNT FROM MY LASTMA EXPERIENCE
1. Beware of Lastma anywhere you see them on the road.
2. When I got their office, I found out that most of their victims are private car owners who are not aware of those one way route because there is no visible sign to show it only a paved diversion.
3. Most of their so called traffic offences could easily be corrected but rather, they chose to use it against the person.
4. They hardly go after danfo who are constant traffic law breakers.
5. I still doubt reliability and reliability of Google map in knowing one way, so is better to accept trips to areas well known to you.

Law enforcement is dangerous in Nigeria because it lacks correction on a minor mistakes rather encourages settlement.
