Segun is Yoruba. His mother is Igbo and Arinze is his middle name, not his surname. His surname wasn't appealing enough for TV, so the first producer he worked with asked him to use Arinze instead, he said this on Monalisa's talk show

What people don't understand is that Igbo is a title given to people that speak Igbo .....Igbo consists of many and various dialects ....my Igbo dialect from owerri is different to that of someone from mbaise ......it applies everywhere .....someone from idenmili anambara can't really understand Igbo spoken by one from owerri or ebonyi
