The Management of the University of Calabar has announced a Two Week Mid Semester Break for all students of the University with effect from today 12th October, 2015.

Students are expected to vacate the Hostels on or before 6:00pm to enable Management address the issues raised by the students.

Normal academic activities would resume on Friday, 30th October, 2015.

Note: No Student should be found on Campus, especially within the Hostels after 6:00pm today 12th October 2015

At the end, the students will be at the receiving end of this whole scenario. which is why sometimes I have a mixed feelings towards student protests.

Seems like a normal thing to do only if the issues will be properly addressed. Aluta Continua!

You see? If you want anything done in Nigeria, hit the streets + SHOUT + SCREAM + Speak up + Carry a placard = PROTEST. Don't die in silence.

Unical, my alma mater is noted for one thing:frequent protest by students. I was quite neutral here throughout my study years but i was one of the witnesses to the damages done after events like this.
Students don't just protest but do so in order to effect changes in the system. A further probe of the causes of happenings of this nature would reveal ugly pictures which need to be erased, structures which need to be pulled down,sufferings on the part of the students which need to be looked into and minimized, trends which need to be set and sustained, school management officials with questionable characters who shud be probed and made to feel the wrath of the law.
The Nigerian university environment serves as a safe haven for bribery and corruption to strive.Mr Buhari shud expand the tentacle of his anti-corruption campaign to our tertiary institutions.
