A 60- year- old man from Niger Republic, Isa Usman, has been arrested by the police for raping a 9 -year- old girl at Kure Ultra Modern Market, Minna where he owns a pure water shop .

LEADERSHIP gathered that Usman, who has been in Niger State since he came from Niger Republic over two decades ago, is a father of 12 children who owns one of the shops in the ultra modern market.

A source in the market told LEADERSHIP that the 9- year- old girl that he raped was one of the girls that usually helped him to hawk pure water in the market for some stipends.

It was learnt that Usman engaged in the act in a broad day light when the market was in session and the cry from the girl while he was having canal knowledge of her attracted people in the market who forced themselves into his shop and saw him on top of girl.

Shocked by the incident, traders in the market descended on him to rescue the small girl and would have maimed him but for the timely intervention of the police in the market.

When LEADERSHIP visited the market, it was gathered that the old man had already been transferred to GRA police division where the market police post falls under in the state capital , Minna.

Confirming the incident however, the police public relations officer of the Niger State police command, ASP Bala Elkana, said that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
