Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, has told the Senate that non-performing refineries will be shut down by December, 2015.

Kachikwu made the disclosure while undergoing ministerial screening. He said, "At the end of December we will compare production of refineries and shut down whichever ones are not producing"

'The current average performance level of our Refineries are 25 - 28%.'

If this will increase the production capacity of the functional ones to about 90-95%, then it is a welcome development.

Which day did they open these refineries that dey re already shutting them down

We were made to believe that pur refineries were fully functioning despite claims by the last administration that they will be fully functional by 2016. Now they will be shut down by December. Why commission a refinary that is only 25% functional only to shut them down again!

The title of the post should be "Some refineries MAY..." and not WILL.

I watched the ministerial screening of Ibe Kachikwu and I can confirm that the man is a pure GEM. The depth and breath of his knowledge and his commitment to accountability & transparency is a blessing to Nigeria.
