Council Of State Meeting: Why Buhari Should Apologise To Nigerians by OgaInnocent(m): 8:53pm On Oct 21, 2015
Today, the 21st day of October 2015, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria presided over the might council of state meeting. A meeting that its level of significance in the Unity of Nigeria can never be overemphasized. This
meeting is supposed to be attended by all former presidents and heads of states, past chief justices of the Federation, the 36 states incumbent governors as well as the leaders of the National Assembly.

Notable faces absent at president Buhari's first council of state meeting after becoming Nigeria's No. 1 citizen on may 29, 2015; were the likes of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Good luck Jonathan and Bukola Saraki, the embattled Nigerian senate president.

I suppose GEJ absence was necessitated by his global assignment in Tanzania, where he led the commonwealth international observers to Tanzania.

Saraki's case ought to be glaring. He needs rest after the Code of Conduct 'wahala' today. 'Body no be firewood!'
I can't say why OBJ was absent for now.

Now to the Nitty-gritty of the whole phenomena. Last year, 2014, President Buhari was absent in a crucial meeting of this nature when it was being presided by His predecessor, GEJ.

The reason for his abscondment is unknown to me, but I learnt that it was due to the injustice Done to him which has not been redressed.

That is not all, earlier this year, it was also reported that president Buhari broke protocol at the council of state meeting which he managed to attend.
It was learnt that it is customary for president Buhari to wait and walk in with President Jonathan.
Rather than going into the holding room, Buhari ignored the advice of the Protocol Officers and went into session with the APC governors who had arrived as a team to gang-up for the subject of discussion.
He bluntly refused to go to the holding room, despite repeated efforts by the senate president, David Mark; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Principal Secretary, Hassan Tukur that he was meant to walk in with the President and other past heads of state on the red carpet

Fast forward to today, Buhari is now the president of the federal republic of Nigeria. He is now the presiding officer. How would Mr president feel if he is been visited with the same attitude he showered on Jonathan. How would Mr president feel if an elder statesman starts following his footsteps during the Jonathan era.

I am sure he would not feel good as far as he still remains a man with conscience which he is. That is why I suppose Mr president should be humble enough to regret his actions in those days, now that he is the presiding officer of council of state meetings at least for the next four years. He must not apologise to Nigerians, but doing it before the council of elders would go a long way in strenghtning the relationships he would have with them.

Lesson: Beware of how you treat people you meet on your way up the ladder, because you would definitely meet them on your way down.

The measure you give is the measure you shall receive.

You cannot run away from the consequences of your choice.

Always be good!!!
