Fayose escapes police, SSS arrest

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, narrowly escaped arrest by the combined team of police and State Security Service officials in Abuja on Thursday.

The security agents had laid in ambush for Fayose on the premises of the Africa Independent Television where he had earlier appeared on a political programme, ''Focus on Nigeria''.

Fayose had criticised the Peoples Democratic Party for what he called, its desperate attempt to win the rerun governorship election in Ekiti State.

Also on the programme were Senator Ayo Arise, Mr. Emeka Ngige (SAN) and a man who claimed to have observed the rerun election.

While Fayose castigated the PDP and Arise for allegedly being in possession of thugs who were arrested by the police and in whose possession charms were found, Arise wondered why Fayose, whom he said, had been declared a man without character, could still be talking on such a programme.

At a point, Arise had threatened to walk out of the live programme if Fayose was not called to order.

A source at the Padoma Hill, Asokoro, where the station is located, said some members of staff of the organisation started noticing unusual movements of some people who came in three different vehicles.

The vehicles were Peugeot Expert, Chevrolet and Peugeot 406.

Sensing that they had come for Fayose, who was still on the programme, the former governor was alerted.

The source said, "We had to alert him so that it would not be as if we lured him here to be arrested.

"We then asked him to either prepare to be arrested or escape, if he had any means."

Fayose, it was gathered, had to escape through a bush path and abandoned his vehicle at the station.

The vehicle, which was parked in front of the station, was still there when our correspondent visited about 2.57pm.

During the interview, Arise said he came under attack because he was seen as a stumbling block against the governorship ambition of the Action Congress' candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

He said he was disappointed that a broadcasting house, Adaba FM, operating in Akure misinformed Nigerians that he was held by the police for about four days.

But Fayose said it was true that Arise was arrested but that he bought his freedom.

During the programme, Niger Delta activist, Mujaheed Asari-Dokubo insisted on an apology by Arise who had called him a 'thug.'

So the TV people admitted to informing him of an impeding arrest? I can swear to God that is an arrestable offence. 

Also, why is he running? Why ain't the exist covered if the so called SSS wants to take him in? What a joke.

Dem no wan arrest am, how can a former Governor who has police escort be able to hide if the police govt wan arrest him, abegi?

For the fact that I have heard this kind of news more than 100 times in the past makes it an old news.

why wont him escape? the Papa Deceiving Pikin know what they are doing and they are trying all means to destroy the peace in the fountain of knowledge. Fayose is our spoke's man and it wont be good enough 4 him to let the sss arrest him. If not 4 him Ekiti would've being in the dark cos nobody wants to be killed that is why most people are silent about the case in Ekiti State. maake una leave Fayose oh!

Why won't he run, what offence has he committed and in the first case, Fayose is not a criminal and as a formal Governor they should have given him the honor of inviting him for interrogation before arrest if the need be. Our law enforcement office are being partism and this is very very bad. What he did was right because am sure if he was arrested, they will detain him till after they have rigged the election, so he has done rightly and after the election they should then go and do there worse. People like Senator Arise that should be arrested was not, a reputable senator being proud that his house are the den of thugs, someone who ammunition was seized from his cohort in front of his house and a reputable senator allowing his thugs to molest some journalist and thereafter harbouring them from arrest. In my own opinion Arise should be arrested instead of Fayose. Nigeria is turning to another thing. May God help us,

I see what you mean. But, running away won't look good on his part. The whole thing is a joke anyway.

Let him run and after the election they can come and arrest him, all these PDP dogs.
