Mynd44:I doubt Ajimobi is serious about this. He's spent four years and just realizing the need to partner SA or any other worthy country to develop agriculture sector of the state? SMH for the SW leaders! |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Mynd44: 6:31am On Dec 02, 2015 |
PassingShot:There is a reason that Ajimobi got re-elected(a feat which had never happened before) and it is not because he spent 4 years doing nothing. He is one of the governors who are less and less interested in getting into media hype and thibgs like that. Yes in every place, there is room for improvement but Ajimobi has done well to improve way Onto state looks and he had a lot of capital projects too. It is never late to set policies and this night just be a continuation o policy already set 1 Like |

Mynd44:Ajimobi got elected for two main reasons which are unconnected to his mediocre performance: 1. His challengers were not necessarily better alternatives. Ladoja was revealed to have secretly returned stolen monies through EFCC and people rightly became disappointed in him. Akala and Folarin are nothing to write home about not to talk of Makinde who was a novice at that level. 2. Popularity of Sai Buhari and his change mantra really helped him and many others like him then. My major worries are beyond his tenure. They extend to finding a better governor after him. |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Rolings: 6:54am On Dec 02, 2015 |
Mynd44: Ajimobi may not have performed well in the Agricultural sector and some other sector in his first tenure but he performed well in areas he concentrated like urban renewal, roads, environmental sanitation esp in Ibadan, welfare of State workers and Security. He made it clear that his second term will focus on human capital development, Agriculture, Education and other areas. He is not one to go about with pressmen showing projects, his work is speaking for him, he is a blessing to oyo state, even his political enemies acknowledge this. #proudlyajimobisupporter |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Mynd44: 6:57am On Dec 02, 2015 |
PassingShot:You believe Ajimobi was not popular? The only group of people that did not support him was actually the civil servants because his stance on discipline; apart from that, he was supported. Gor your saying there was a lack of alternatives doesnt that make him the best to govern in his set? Two of those who contested against him(Ladoja amd Ajala) are former governors which mesns the peole did a comparison between how the state was under the three of them and voted for the best candidate. Buhari's popularity was an effect but it was not that much of an effect as if that was the only criteria, he would have lost. I think it is too early to start talking about finding a replacement for a governor who still has about 3.5 years left in his tenure. I am sure there will be someone in Oyo state that can comfortably take it up where he stopped and do more than Ajimobi has done. What do you think of Governor Ambode? |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Rolings: 7:04am On Dec 02, 2015 |
PassingShot: I worry about finding a better governor to take over from Ajimobi too. Oyo state is a complex State with diverse interests, if there will be fairness and justice the Oke Ogun zone should produce the next governor but who from that zone has enough political clout to defeat a strong Ibadan or ogbomosho candidate, i don't know of anyone. Lanlehin would have been the perfect choice but his political career is doomed as a result of his impatience and allowing Ladoja to deceive him into decamping from APC to accord. Me think Ajimobi sucessor will come from among the 2 male senators and the Minister. |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Mynd44: 7:09am On Dec 02, 2015 |
Rolings:I dont really trust the minister from Oyo state, Shittu that much. It is not because of his religious affiliations but during the screening, he did not seem like much. Might have been me though |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by PassingShot(m): 7:56am On Dec 02, 2015 |
Mynd44:Well, I hope Ajimobi does better in this 2nd term than his 1st even though I doubt it. Ambode is gradually settling into the big shoes left by Fashola. His recent acquiring of copters and vehicles to stem tide of insecurity is highly commendable. He's also started to fix some roads too. I think as a Lagos governor, it's difficult for him to fail even if he doesn't really plan to succeed because Lag citizens are too vocal to look on while the state decays under him. Only if we had same level of awareness of Lag citizens in other SW states! 1 Like |

PassingShot:I Remember when people put Ambode on blast cos they felt he was not doing enough…..yes, people need to speak out and understand that it is not about APC vs PDP but we vs the government. If the people dont talk and complain, the government might just assume all is well 1 Like |

Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Rolings: 8:54am On Dec 02, 2015 |
Mynd44: Many people feel same about that man, even people from his zone only supported his ministerial nomination cos doing otherwise will deny the zone a strong federal appointment. I feel he may have a chance because of his closeness to Buhari but then that is not a guarantee the people of oyo state will vote him |

modath: Mo wa pa o, Aunty Modath. Mo lero pe you're doing great too! You know, this thread's the only reason I've been logging on to Nairaland for the past 3 weeks or thereabout. It actually ebbed away my tribalistic and trouble-cum-ban-causing tendencies as I seldom visit other threads. Now, some "saintly" people think we aren't doing it well. O ga fun won sha Damita Jo? Not yet. I've given up on finding her on NL, though. |

Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Gbawe: 9:10am On Dec 02, 2015 |
modath: Indeed. I left the thread when intolerant folks decided they were more Yoruba than others and had the right to shout and rant above others. This will always be the black man's problem i.e our egotism ,over-bloated sense of self-importance and vainglory which means many cannot modestly defer to the greater good of a group, society, State or even Nation. I don't know why the thread died, since I left many pages ago, but I could predict it would die because it had been hijacked by the voices of intolerance and egotism. No bigger than that of an individual who has probably never set foot in Yoruba land yet intolerantly likes the sound of his own voice and simplistic reasoning more than he has the humility to understand that the search for solutions must include all voices and all opinions. When this discord amongst so-called Yorubas and their 'well-wishers' is obvious then anyone can contribute mischievously here to frustrate the thread and kill what can lead to the development of solid ideas and the discernment of viable solutions after robust and earnest inspection of what everyone has to say. It is not for some to begin calling Yoruba leaders "failure" only for this group to brook no opposition and then try and take the thread in a clique-based and childish "them against us" impasse so that it is only their school of thought that can speak. My argument was always that we look at issues holistically and see the major problems facing the SW which , in its entirety, cannot be placed at the doorstep of Governors alone. We have many brilliant governors who have outstanding academic qualifications and have excelled in the private/public/education sector and turned round the fortunes of diverse and multi-national entities like Ajimobi, Fayemi, Amosun, Ambode et al. Ordinary common sense, especially from those who have never led even a group of school children, means we should be careful irreverently calling men like that failures without wishing to examine some of the factors that made their "failure" in certain sectors inevitable !!! We don't gain solutions witch hunting anyone !!! We should criticise constructively and refrain from what most human beings do which is to unobjectively and unfairly look for scapegoats to blame everything wrong on. Almost 400 pages yet are we no closer to forming something official, as some of us suggested many pages ago, that can be a formal pressure/lobby group we can use to place demand before leaders. Does that show we really want solutions or does it show, if we are honest, that many just love the sound of their own voices and the chance to appear erudite even when they are saying absolutely nothing useful or productive at all? In the end many will tire of the predictable egotism and infighting, that precludes the chance for genuine solutions to emerge, and move on. 3 Likes |

tupacshakur: That is the crux of the matter, the calming effect of this thread is hurting the site's bottomline so action had to be taken.... We live in a CAPITALIST world, HONOUR & RESPECT can go hang !! & Mynd44, Why are you editing my post You are finding it hard to ban my moniker cos i don't break the rules, so you'd prefer to scare me off abi? & I am still within my rights to reiterate my opinion that "It isin black folks to hurt one another" #Fact, #Nodebate Black folks sold their kinsmen into SLAVERY to whitemen, so i don't judge new generation black folks, it is in the blood.. P.S... Analysts on AIT picked points from this thread to discuss on Kaakaki on "VIABILITY OF STATES"... That is a vindication that we didn't waste over 30 days to make our voices heard.. 1 Like |

Musiwa419: Emperor, i did, didn't see anything.. @ Elder Gbawe, I get your points & they are well thought out, but at the same time, the other side argue the way it suits them simply because that is their reality.... I am always balanced in my opinions because i LIVE here.. i see , know & feel the polity unlike when people base their opinions on what they read in blogs & online media platforms, who are known for Hyberbolic & gross EXAGGERATION... When they then do a comparison of what obtains in their climes, they tend to posit some opinions without being fully aware of the limitations & peculiarity of different societies , case in point; Debt burden & mass retrenchment of Civil servants.... As for why this thread is on life support, some outsider folks kept reporting posters (despite being guilty of same offences on their own NUMEROUS threads ) & the back & forth movement of the thread... Factor in clash of wills, Godzilla proportion egos & differing ulterior motives, the thread went south.. 1 Like |

Gbawe: Your make a lot of points that are valid Gbawe. But if we ignore some of intemperate language used, so do others. As one of the defenders of the commonwealth on these boards, I certainly stand by my earlier appraisal of Ogbeni. raumdeuter: I was one of ogbeni Aregbe's greatest supporters, to begin with. But if you ask me for an appraisal of his efforts in the area of public administration, today, it is without equivocation that I would locate him as one of the least effectual leaders in the South West. While I can cite numerous examples of what informs my current view, let me draw on two that do not focus unduly on the state's current financial crises. (1) Osun state has made the least effort to enshrine a framework of e-government. - Budgets are hardly ever made public. - Policy documents are scant In sum, fiscal transparency is none existent (2) The implementation of Opon Imo, an initiative which has proved to be both unsustainable and unfit for purpose, was a total sham. - While we heralded this feat with great aplomb at the time, the truth is; no comphenesive trial was ever carried out. - Difficult questions which might have helped to address stakeholder concern were fobbed off, in search of "a first" for Osun. - When the state's chapter of the opposition party (PDP) questioned the involvement of Kabiru Aregbesola in this scheme, a telling response (copied in below) was provided by the governor How Kabiru rescued Opon-Imo from failure free-of-charge – AregbesolaSource: http://www.osundefender.org/?p=113070 Please pay close attention to the statement I highlighted and tell me your sensibilities aren't offended by the lame attempt to rationalise nepotism. P.S - I have deliberately limited my criticism to these two examples because I think Ogbeni is beleaguered enough as it is, at the moment. 1 Like |
