Aareonakakanfo: Thanks a lot for this. These pictures do not do justice to those waterfalls. They are truly majestic. At the bottom of those waterfalls are lots of smooth stones with a metallic sheen that glisten in the sun. Someone guessed that the shiny particles in the stone might be copper particles or traces of tin. Am yet to check this out, however. |

Aareonakakanfo: Hahahahah abi oooooooo They either become Oluwanonsos or no permanent residence for them. I bet they would accept to change their names to Oluwas and have Abaja tribal marks lacerated on their cheeks than to go back to that red mud alaigbo. Some of them are even Osus and are afraid of going back home. It sucks to be a Flateeno. Zik of Onisa brought this upon his people. Zik was a goat, he had no foresight whatsoever. The goat wanted to become Premier of Western Region. Is it that bad for them in the East that they must run away from home? Zik for Premier of Western Region? I Dey Laugh. Thanks to Papa Awolowo. Well done guys. This is a really good medium/project, and if properly managed, help aid the process of reversing the systemic damage done to the Yoruba race in Nigeria. I'm still on page 40. Will get up to speed in some days ( if the thread doesn't run faster than me). Ilekehd, shymex, aare, 9jacrip, and even the sometimes irriating contributions of guys like anonimi ( he's politically biased but he makes sense occasionally); thanks for pouring yourself out for this... I will give my take on this after digesting what is here and getting up to speed. Well done. 2 Likes |

I don't mind posts on Yoruba history though as a lot of "us" need more education . totit, that "Proudly Yoruba" group is a very good source. Good morning everyone. 1 Like |

PrincessJaneDoe: jstbeinhonest: My Yoruba brother and sister, I understand you lot - but please bear with me. I've got about 80 more achievers to post. And everything is ready to go now - I can't waste it. I'm going to take a little break from work to do it quickly. I was planning to post everything later in the day - I'll just do it, so as to leave the floor open for discussion. There's a lot of talk about. And we'll keep doing that in stages. However, we can't really talk about everything on here, since it's an open forum. But we'll keep giving suggestions daily - and probably replace the personalities/achievers with Yoruba history, developments in the SW, and news about Yorubas as we proceed. Thanks a lot for the understanding. 1 Like |

Yinka Shonibare MBE Yinka Shonibare MBE RA was born in London and moved to Lagos, Nigeria at the age of three. He returned to London to study Fine Art first at Byam Shaw College of Art (now Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design) and then at Goldsmiths College, where he received his MFA, graduating as part of the ‘Young British Artists’ generation. He currently lives and works in the East End of London. Over the past decade, Shonibare has become well known for his exploration of colonialism and post-colonialism within the contemporary context of globalisation. Shonibare’s work explores these issues, alongside those of race and class, through the media of painting, sculpture, photography and, more recently, film and performance. Using this wide range of media, Shonibare examines in particular the construction of identity and tangled interrelationship between Africa and Europe and their respective economic and political histories. Mixing Western art history and literature, he asks what constitutes our collective contemporary identity today. Having described himself as a ‘post-colonial’ hybrid, Shonibare questions the meaning of cultural and national definitions. Shonibare was a Turner prize nominee in 2004 and awarded the decoration of Member of the “Most Excellent Order of the British Empire”. He has added this title to his professional name. In 2013 he was elected Royal Academician by the Royal Academy of Arts. He was notably commissioned by Okwui Enwezor At Documenta 10 in 2002 to create his most recognised work ‘Gallantry and Criminal Conversation’ that launched him on an international stage. He has exhibited at the Venice Biennial and internationally at leading museums worldwide. In September 2008, his major mid-career survey commenced at the MCA Sydney and toured to the Brooklyn Museum, New York in June 2009 and the Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC in October 2009 . In 2010, 'Nelson's Ship in a Bottle' became his first public art commission on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. |
