busi-bodi:

another stupid legacy from OBJ.

The requirement had always been in CIBN Act right from the original Act in 1992 and still retained in 2007 Ammendment. It is not OBJ legacy.

Contrary to what most people think, YOU DO NOT NEED TO WRITE ANY EXAMS TO BE A 'MEMBER' OF CIBN. Infact all present MDs of Banks in Nigeria are 'members' even those who dont know what the logo of CIBN looks like.

Unlike ICAN or some other professional bodies, there are Seven (7) classes of membership in CIBN as follows

MEMBER:
Anybody working in a bank is required to register as an ordinary member of CIBN. He/She pays annual subscription of N1,000.  No exam is required. Just be a bank worker. More of income generation outlet for the institute. They may  use MCIB after their names.

HONOURARY SENIOR MEMBER: An ordinary member as above who has retired.

STUDENT MEMBER: A graduate who wish to write the institute exams to qualify as an Associate

GRADUATE MEMBER:On successful completion of the institute professional exams by a student member before election as an Associate.

ASSOCIATE: On election/admission of a graduate into associate cadre. They use designation letter ACIB after their names.

HONOURARY FELLOW: Conferred honoura causa on a prominent person

FELLOW: Conferred on Associate after 10 years of qualification on application by the associate.  They use FCIB as designation letter

pls my dear friends, read this topic well before u contribute. the statement is saying that those who work in bank technical deptments like: operations, risk management, internal control, compliance, inspection, audit should be registered with the institute. i think it's a movement in the right direction.when u look at our banks now u can easily find graduate of animal nutrition, geology, botany, home economics, linguistic, zoology, microbiology, biochemistry, arabic studies. even medicine working in these departments. personally i have no problems with that but the technical department reqiures u to register with CIBN.

i think if doctors have to be registered before they can work, then i dont see anything wrong with this directive.

it also gives those who went to study banking & finance, accountancy, and other financial related courses to get what they deserve instead of having somebody who does not actually have any knowledge of the whole process to head these sensitive departments.

u also have to know that its the banks that pay the annual subscription not the individual this is to tell u that the banks too are tired of all this quacks who parade themselves as bankers.

also the results of each stage written by the students will be sent to the bank examiners of CBN and the HR's of the respective banks at the end of each diet. so dont think u are going to register and 4get the whole issue.

now before u hit the career page of any bank's website, better think twice and look at ur qualifications as well as ur discipline. if ur field does not have anything to with any bank function or info tech then better go to ur feild and practice what u studied.

a simple advice is enough for those who are smart.

Thank you klas for the well researched post. This is what the CIBN Act says. People should stop imposing their opinion or wish on the Act like the post by Ewela above. Being a 'member' is different from being an 'associate' of CIBN. The latter requires exam, the former doesnt. End of discussion.

BREAK-IN NEWS!, BREAK-IN NEWS!!, BREAK-IN NEWS!!!,

I just heard from the grapevine that the "Shattered Institute huf Road Trans-pot Wurkers" (SIRTW) has asked the Presidency to sign their Bill into law: Anyone that dares holds the Steering wheel, must be a MEMBER of dea Union! grin

Registered members can add the qualification to their name like:

Rafiu Onijongbon, MSIRTW, Ordinary member allowed to drive "keke-Maruwa', Bus Conductors
Nasir Umaru, SMSIRTW, Student member, Motor Cyclist, Cyclist and under-age children riding Tricycles!
Bomboy Bonnifase, FSIRTW, Fellow Category, 20yrs experience on Caterpillar, Trailers, BRT, Molue, Tippers
Mr. Jones, AMSIRTW, Associate Members, from good old Jalopy to a cruise-control SUV

Other Categories include "Honorary Member" HMSIRTW, any "uniformed" parson, from security, ellow feefer, Sooja or unidentified armed parsons.

The law requires that all category of members must carry Genuine Drivers license issued by the 'Shattered' body.

New members should rush to collect membership forms at Oshodi B/stop, Ketu, CMS and Iyana-Ipaja H/Q before they become scarce,
, and please, NO FIGHTING among registered members. Henceforth, no one is allowed to drive any "mechanical machine" without being a member.

When asked by international reporters, why they use the phrase "shattered Institute", the National sair-man responded that registration for membership will be reduced to #10,000 yearly and for that amount of money, the certificate of membership can not be anything less than "Shattered Institute"! Everyone around nodded in agreement!! shocked

CAVEAT: This information is yet to be verified, poster takes no responsibility for any unauthorized usage :d of the Institute's Logo grin

this is really stupid, frankly; its just a way for CIBN to increase thier subscription revenue.this is because other proffesssional bodies like ACCA,CFA and project management are having more patroange, why?, they are boader in outlook.

i presently work in a bank and i am also a finance graduate but i am not interested in a CIBN certificate;it is too narrow.the question is what happens wen you leave the banking industry for another? i bet u that the certfication becomes useless.

what should have been done is to insist that any unit of a bank or a branch must be headed by a member of the instistute.this is becos the individual must have put in a sigmifnant number of years in the industry thus indicating that he /she has chosen banking as a career.
then ,they can give 5 years grace period to be fully certified, that would have been a step in the right direction.Unfortunately, this was not the case.

What we have is another obnoxious law made selfishly.

i Weep for this nation.;its a shame.

Maybe this implementation could bring down the core marketing done by girls who can't spell their names but capable of marketing everything, meeting targets and getting promotions!

ordinary memebrship should not even be enough, maximum number of years should be given to bank workers to pass the exam.

Professional banking may reduce aggressive marketing. They need to know about real banking by passing the exams. It's a very great idea, to me.

As noble as your idea is, l am sure you know that it is "these gaals" that pay for all those perks every banking staff enjoys!
Where will your "upfront" come from, without these babes?
Where will that hefty 400K/month come from, well, maybe you prefer to be deployed to teach at a Secondary school where "morals" are well preached and observed!!
, and you wont mind going home with some miserly 30K/month!  cry  shocked

Even your sweetheart/wife will use that as a good excuse to "excuze" herself!  grin
Who no like better thing?

Emmm, can all the power-movers, hot lady-bankers in the house chop-me-a-knuckle!
I go die o!

Well, I felt things should be done more professionally, I'm not teaching morals per se but ethics is a more absolute definition of it, If I could say.

Upfront? I'm not a banker. The only upfront we see in my field are Mobilisation for projects which you must secure with bank bonds. I'm fully employed and doubt if I will have spare time for teaching, however, if time comes up, teaching is one of the things I enjoy doing so much: Math/engineering courses.
