yea, the NCC should have used taxation and not price floor. Just like what you said, price floor strengthens the super companies against the thriving ones and we subscribers we still be at the receiving end. This negates healthy competition.

NCC wasn't wrong about the decision to introduce price caps. They did it to protect subscribers in the long run. If they didn't regulate the unhealthy competition, the big players will drive out the weak and new players. In the long run they will operate unchallenged and charge whatever they want. Remember the era when we billed by the minute until glo entered the game.

the removal of floor price means the telecom operators can now decide to sell at at any price they wish to sell.
It's a very good development and I believe we are going to see slashes in prices of data.

The head of NCC should be sacked asap!
The revelation in the story shows he is an incompetent and a corrupt buffoon.
The imposition of the data floor price must be investigated thoroughly and the telecoms company that manipulated NCC to do this must be sanctioned!

ncc are on their own side, buh I can relate to what is s going on though, imaging mtn bringing their prices very low cause dey have enough cash to absorb the loses, oda marketers can't compete as every1 will port to mtn, d odas leave, making mtn d only 1 available, mtn increases their prices back to outrageous status, ....... na we go lose last last. ......

Without regulations you'd have monopolies and user islands which will stifle the industry and drive others out of business which in turn will make the industry unattractive and drive away tax revenues and growth.

Regulators protect consumers from predatory businesses. But they also have an obligation to protect businesses from themselves.

If a utility provider is allowed to set prices ridiculously lower than everyone else because it has the economies of scale or the verticality to do that, people would leave all other businesses and migrate to the cheaper option and create user islands. For example if.MTN says pay 200 naira and enjoy free MTN to MTN calls for 7 days most people would ditch their existing carriers and run to MTN or they'd limit their calls to within the MTN user base. This will negatively affect the smaller companies.

But at least now data might be cheaper. As it is now it's even cheaper than in the US (although carriers there have.more honest metering. They dont have vampire drain where your data just keeps bleeding out even if you're offline)
