he first plane produced by a Chinese government initiative to compete in the market for large passenger jetliners has been unveiled in Shanghai.

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) showed off its twin-engine C919 in a ceremony on Monday attended by some 4,000 government officials and other guests at a hangar near the Pudong International Airport.

China's aviation market is growing fast but relies on Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

The ruling Communist Party wants to claw back some of the commercial benefits that flow to foreign suppliers.

"The roll out of the first C919 aircraft marks a significant milestone in the development of China's first indigenous aircraft," COMAC chairman Jin Zhuanglong told the ceremony.

The aircraft, which has a range of up to 5,555 kilometres, will make its first test flight in 2016, he said - meaning that it will miss the original deadline of this year.

Even if it's Chinco things. Which one has Nigeria made? All we do is to bring people down and discourage those who want to make better impact. China in the 80's was known for ceramics plates but see where they are today and compare them to Nigeria. Even America is afraid of their rapid development.

My people, una see the kain function wee politicians dey go. For Nigeria, na opening of one 'presidential library' many go come and also not forgetting they will still fund the 'library' from the pocket of the masses.

I hope you are not being serious with this comment! Look at how they started and look at where they are heading. If Nigeria had started like they did, we will not be where we are. Even Singapore we (Nigeria) had independence before them has gone far. India of recent (in the month of June) tested their first home made aircraft carrier and some years back, they sent a space probe to Mars.

We are still very far in terms of technological development!
