THE STATE OF THE NIGERIAN NATION TODAY

I guess if President Buhari tells the nation how bankrupt president Jonathan left the nation many will cry blood.

My frie...nd Alloy Emeka Ezeji a die hard pro Jonathan during the last presidential campaign in a recent post described the looting of Nigeria's treasury by Johnathan's administration as a disaster.

From his London base he launched Operation Recover our Money..
For once in four years we had no disagreement over Jonathan's wreck of our nation at a time oil was black gold.

There are still many Nigerians who are yet to come to understanding of how terrible Jonathan's administration supervised the liquidation of our economy and the bankruptcy of our nation.

It is doubtful if 20% of oil proceeds during Jonathan's administration was accounted for .

Perhaps president Buhari wants to save Nigerians the tears of blood by not telling Nigerians how grounded the nation is while he travels worldwide seeking international cooperation for the repatriation of Nigeria's wealth hidden in the vaults of foreign banks.

For me that is cautious leadership but how will Nigerians understand the state of their nation if they are not told the hard truth.

It was hard for Americans in 2008 to hear President Barack Obama in his first state of the nation Address tell how president George Bush jnr had collapsed the American economy and how urgent it was to seek a bail out.

I would advise president Buhari to emulate president Obama and let Nigerians. understand his starting point with our economy.

Nigerians are tough people. Though they cry blood will brace up to save the only country they can truly call their own.

America borrowed from China to save banks and the auto industry from closing shops and sending out to the streets millions of retrenched workers.

Nigeria may not have private sector businesses to bail out as it depends solely on oil since 1967 but could borrow to resuscitate our Agriculture with the benefit of huge natural land and water endowment.

We know that Nigeria had huge but wasted opportunities from proceeds of oil to diversify its economy over the past forty years.

General Yakubu Gowon as Head of state between 1966 and 1975 and presiding over huge oil revenue told the world that money was not Nigeria's problem but how to spend it.

Onyeka Onwuenu in her wonderful documentary titled Nigeria the Squandering of Riches told aptly our wasted opportunities to use our oil wealth to build a strong and diversified economy but chose to go the way of squander .God bless her.

President Jonathan told Nigerians and the world that corruption is not stealing.

The end of all the fantasies is that Nigeria today is Stone broke and the Chicks have come home to roost.

With a humble make over and courageous leadership Nigeria shall rise again out of the ashes of bankruptcy.

Brazil made it out of the woods. Nigeria can, under the leadership of president Buhari.
