I'm just curious that 65k out of 85K? are dey saying this include the likes of Julius Berger, RCC, CECC, Dantata and the likes

Once there are no ongoing projects, Construction companies normally weed off 80% workforce. It is a manpower dependent sector.

Why is it that these days, what we hear is massive retrenchment, retirement or sack and nothing like massive recruitment of staff. Is this what change is bringing for Nigeria or what? I just don't understand. I need some clarification.

Anyone

Because Nigeria is in auto pilot, why wouldn't the economy nose dive?, where we have a president that thinks that this is 1983,what direction is our economy going since May?,who is that foreign investor that will risk his money in such a vision less and direction less economy like ours?

Oil prices have fallen.

And because of that....money is not flowing, and people are not building houses and such.

Nigeria must industrialise......so that we can have lots of companies, who will award lots of construction projects....which means more jobs.

Buhari must be judged by his performance in the Power, Education and Mass transit area of our society....the BIG three that would make or break his administration.

The three sectors you are mentioning do not generate funds for govt.

He should concentrate on Customs, FIRS, Immigration, and other fund generating agencies. You and i know that Mass transit belongs to Igbos. 95% of Mass transit ventures do fail. It is not for feeble minds.

Oil price dropped by 60%, so will be the government revanue. if the government used to get $100 from oil, now the government can only get $40. See the drop, hence all this economic meltdown.

In a simple language, NIGERIA IS BROKE

Nigeria is so broke that it's just today authorised the payment of N470 Billion in fuel subsidy payments to petrol marketers, payments that were declined to be paid by the last administration due to the fact that they are largely fraudulent.

You couldn't make it up.

You are not correct.
According to the president of the association:
GEJ govt gave frivolous contracts.
Political contracts,
Payment for these contracts were accumulated by GEJ govt. Come to think of it, how come alizson have dollars in billions and contracors are owed billions of naira.
GEJ had precipitated these problems with so mush money at his disposal.
May God help us.

Which bank did Alison keep the dollar billions abeg ?

The case of my friend has made me not to pity most people sacked these days. He got shortlisted for immigration recruitment interview, he kept screaming clueless jonathan. He went for the written interview and was successful instead of being grateful, he was busy complaining GEJ is clueless, we will sack him with our votes. Then GEJ lost the election, you needed to have seen how happy and jubilant he was. Thereafter he went through the remaining recruitment process and got recruited, he was very happy he has gotten a federal job in less than a year after completing NYSC he forgot who made that chance possible for him. Then Buhari came to power and sacked/releived all of them. Today he is no longer shouting sai buhari instead he keeps complaining about everything. So na who lose pass now? Jonathan or my friend?
hhahahaha...funny enough this happened to many people in the civil service...now they are being retired back to their villages.

The Nigerian customs senior officers sack comes to mind..

I always know this will happen...

Similar headlines from newspaper cuttings in 1984 - 1985 were shown to the young twitter children before the election. But they were ready to commit suicide for Buhari then.

Some even said their fathers were victims of retrenchment then, but that they have 'forgiven' him.

The whole thing looked very much like 'hypnotism'.

You are sounding very pathetic. Did they sack them in 2014? If the firms have been given money since 2014 and about 65,000 are being employed right now, won't you come out and shout sai Baba as usual?

65,000 Nigerian workers are reportedly sacked and you are not showing any empathy. Are you a sociopath?

I guess most people commenting on this topic are so blinded by hate, sentiment and ignorance to have understood the depth of what is happening. How many people commenting here observed that the Federal Government and State Government (inclusive) failed to pay these construction Companies since AUGUST 2014. That means, no payment in AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL and MAY. That is ten months project owed by the Federal and State Government before the assumption of Power by the APC led Federal Government and other State Government on May 29th, 2015.

Imagine the massive depth profile left behind for the incoming Government.

As if this is not enough, most State Government could not afford to pay salary for several months until the current Government (Federal) came to the rescue through the provision of bail out. No wonder President Buhari keep emphasizing the massive financial misappropriation and unprecedented looting that took place in the past regime. It would be a great disservice and sheer hypocrisy to turn blind eye or deaf hear to the effect and impact of these wastage/embezzlement that characterizes the immediate past Government.
Now has a people, we don't want to listen when the alarm is raised by the Government on what is obvious yet we want to criticize and condemn "blindly" when the impact/effect starts hitting hard on the Nation.

Youwin is Jonathan’s baby and he campaigned with same as his achievement. Therefore, you don't expect buhari to continue with the scam project.
Have you heard that sure-p is no more. With the billions invested into the project, they claim majority of the fund was diverted into east-west road that had a budget. They claim they employed millions of graduate to become traffic thugs and campaign touts.
How do you expect a government to work when there is no money for same. The last government borrowed to pay salaries don't forget.

How do you expect this government to pay for those over prices contracts? Why didn't the contractor collect their monies from the past government before they left? Why didn't the passed government pay their debt since August?

Again let not forget that the past government recorded the highest crude oil price with over $100 and nothing to show for. Where are the trains? Where are the employed (only unskilled jobs were created by the construction companies)? Are the airports completed with the over 1 billion dollars (loan) spent? What happened to the subsidy money (balance)?

This guys didn't expect what they met NO MONEY 27 states couldn't pay salaries.

Change is a slow process, let's give them time. One thing I know governance is taking shape No more IMPUNITY. Change never comes easy.

#BeTheJudge.

You worked in the construction company in the past five years that GEJ was president, you had no issues with your job. Instead, you received promotions and increased salary packages. You were happy.

However, in those five years, you committed a lot of energy calling President GEJ "clueless". You and your friends resolved to vote him out on the election day. When the D-Day finally came, you all voted out GEJ, not minding who was going to replace him since, according to you, a "#NEPAbillCertificate" would be far more efficient than GEJ. In fact you even preferred a goat to GEJ.

Finally, you got your wish and GEJ is out and a "body language Administration" is now in place. Four months later, your construction company fires you due to the Stone Age economic policies of the body language regime.

Now that you're jobless, you are looking for GEJ to blame but he is gone.

Moral Lesson: most misfortunes are self inflicted.

You seem not to get it. The budget is operating on a deficit already because despite all expert warnings, the GEJ led government put crude benchmark at $65 per barrel. Now crude has fallen to about $45 and you want a supplementary budget? Like our outstanding debts are not enough... The obvious strategy by the pmb government is to see the previous administration's budgets' life out then bring up theirs... it's painful and it'll hurt but it's a good plan...

Every sector is comatose under Buhari, but in Abuja especially, the construction sector is completely dead. No new projects or ongoing construction - both public projects and private projects.

All the many many housing estates shopping plazas, hotels, etc that seemed to be always under construction round the city have all been halted. Even the government is not constructing new roads or rehabilitating existing ones. Nothing is going on.

Let the old Daura nitwit continue shouting 'kwarapshan' all over the place while things continue to fall apart.

As the widespread misery continues to gain ground, you guys should get ready for gloom and doom. A deep recession looms. Many will eat from dustbins next year, and Nigeria might deteriorate into a Zimbabwe or Somalia unless this dullard is somehow kicked out. 2019 is just too far.
