Kayode Ogundamisi To Ben Murray-bruce On MTN/NCC N5bn Fine. by Banter1(m): 11:15am On Nov 05, 2015 |
In a report yesterday, Sen. Ben Murray- Bruce blasted NCC for fining MTN $5.2 billion for flouting their directive, saying the fine is probably the most damaging action ever taken against Nigeria's drive for foreign direct investment. But political/social commentator Kayode Ogundamisi doesn't agree and came for Ben Bruce on Twitter last night. See more tweets after the cut and tell us whose side you're on... #CommonSenseisntCommon I just hope the twitter Senate President indirectly does not want more foriegn investors to over look the Nigeria law . For every business their is rules and regulation guiding them, you overlook them , you pay the fine. Thank God MTN is not owned by PDP/PDP supporters if not, people like FFK, Fayose,Aribisala, Ben Bruce e.t.c would have cry foul that Buhari is after PDP and its family. On this, we Nigerians should be commending NCC for that fine on MTN . GBN 6 Likes |

The problem with nigeria at this junction is that we play politics with everything, is ben murray bruce a senator of the repulblic or not ? We should talk on governance more than politics. There are evil/good people in Apc and pdp, we Nigerians should try and support good people and not party. Ben was wrong this time, my opinion though 2 Likes |

So we should applaud MTN for flouting rules all in a bid to attract FDI? That's like thanking a man for insulting your parents all because he dashed you a Christmas goat and you're expecting a cow next Christmas on. Ben is just suffering the downsides that comes with being a talkative; they just wanna talk even if it means saying nonsense. I'm guessing he is one of the senators who must have been bribed with a Ghana-must-go full of recharge cards to slide the matter under the rug. Our leaders are really sell outs! Every potential investor knows that there are laid down rules and mode of operation in any economy that they intend to invest in. Some investors come from countries where even more severe punishments are meted out for far lesser violations. 8 Likes |

Mr Kayode, shut up. This action by the NCC, though just, has the slight capability of having a boomerang effect on the Nigerian economy, by displacing and distorting the view of Nigeria, in the eye of foreign investors. Every action in this life, has a positive and negative effect. Though there are many positives, all Mr Bruce is asking, is for the NCC, to also look at the negatives, weigh it against the positives, before passing final judgement. Just because we want to feel important, doesn't mean we should cut off the foot, to spite the face. Mr Kayode learn a bit of common sense 3 Likes |

I thought u guys said there is no change, now there is change and you guy guys want to resist the change. is it our fault that GEJ and mrs puff puff face Iweala could not have the balls to shake thieving companies in Nigeria? You and murray bruce can relocate to togo if Nigeria is too big for you guys. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Can't compare the US to Nigeria. The US can fine a company $1bill and the company will still have an incentive to still invest in the US. On the other hand, if MTN truly violated a legal order by the government then it should be fined. That shouldn't discourage foreign investors investing with good faith. Yes we need investors but we need investors that will respect Nigeria. We are not beggars. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Volkswagen didn't pay more than 7 billion dollars. This guy is an idiot who's talking nonsense. No African company has ever paid up to a 1 billion dollars for a corporate fine in Africa, and no African company can afford to pay 5 billion dollars for a corporate fine. It won't start with MTN. MTN was on the verge of listing their shares on the Nigerian stock exchange in January and now this. . . 1 Like |

Every nation of the world has a regulatory body for various sectors. Telecom sector has NCC in Nigeria (USA has FCC), we have those who set standards for the world too(under United Nations i guess). The purpose of all this is to regulate, control and cut d exccessiveness of most company(imagine Nija without NCC). Even MTN knows he made a mistake and if nothing is done, wen next any oda operator didn't follow NCC's directives, such operator might not be fined since ntin wz dnt to MTN. My take on dis issue is dat MTN shld b fine and we all know dey will not pay all d money but let dis serve as example to odas. And for dos who thinks MTN will leave naija, u know how much dey make here( did u see wot happen to dia shares cos of d fine and dey ar even yet to pay). The company makes too much money dan dey did in SA sef, but NCC needs to make a statement and dey need to start we MTN(scape-goat). And for d senator, we need pple who uphold d law and not dos who break dem or support dos who break it. 1 Like |
