Ok, I'm copying the UniPort thread, and I'm not an Alumnus of OAU, Ife but I attended the great institution for some time before leaving. So I'm creating this thread for all present and old students and alumni of Africa's most beautiful campus. Great Ife!

I spent 3 sessions studying a 5 year course in Great Ife, and one session operating as NFA. The one thing I would like to change about that school is their tendency towards "Aluta" (student demonstrations) and ASUU strikes.

That's true. It's like a curse. They can't do without it.

April 1998 is when I started there. I was admitted into the Electrical and Electronics Department, and I studied for 3 sessions. I spent 2 glorious years at Fajuyi hall and one difficult year in PG hall, and until Nairaland came up things had gone downhill since then!

I know a lot of people who have passed through Great Ife on this forum, but none of them is particularly active.

  I don't think I can actually forget the life in Ife as a jambite in Mozambique hall (Moz). when  guys  always come to register for their 10 units course...MOZ 101.Or do you want me to talk about the Awo guys and about their Aro.[/b]Anyone that passes through the Great Ife will definately understand those words in Italic.
   Faj guys are kool.They are not as rough as [b]Awoite...sorry to say but everyone one knows how Awo guys do behave.

  Should I talk about life in "white house"?I don't think I can really end my story when it comes to the "Greatest of the greatest Ife".It is a wonderful school and a school to be.But the Emi Aluta is the only problem I had then with the school especially in the era of Roger Makanjuola.
  Should I talk about Iyan Pharmacy?Or New Buka?
   I leave the rest for the other member in the house to contribute.

Hahaha, that reminds me of a time we fought with our husbands in Awo because some boys were peeping through the fence while we were taking our bath outside, they ran away to Awo and those Awoites refused to release them to us.

This is just so nice...I actually was looking online for the alumni in the USA.I'll tell you what? there is no feeling like the nostalgia one gets from thinking about your days in Ife.

Sade, I can't help but say that, you finished it!You're a true great Ife. I mean, living in America, there aren't many great Ifes' around. As a matter of fact the Alumni is far away in the western part of america, but once again, it crowded by people who left Ife in the 70s, c'mmon, that was Uni Ife, not OAU,they had their own kinda glory we experienced a different one in some respect.Say, pharmacy, now when I say pharmacy, you know, I'm not talking about the dept, hell no!. I'm talking about the rinky dinky ramshakled restaurant there,please give it up for them.How about Iya Egin at the old buka?...c'mon now...and forks and finger(though I wasn't a huge fan)and those slightly classy dineInns at the new buka, I mean those on ur left hand side.Greatest Ife,greeeaat!!!!

hiya i am presently studing archy(final year) and i think OAU trend of not resuming as planned or starting examinations when scheduled is gone because i guess things are better now.

Great Ife !!!, The memory lingers, so much to to remember, mama egin at the old buka, the ever militant awo boys, the rough boys at the Student union buidling, the angolan jambites, the eficos and the NFAs, The Motherless babies of Moz and the babyless mothers of moremi, the jumpology guys at akintola hall, cant ever forget the sweet memories.

In secondary school my dream was to attend the great Ife as a student but well I travelled abroad instead. Many friends of my are Ife alumnis.

Great memories about OAU ife. I remember life in Angola as a Jambite. Tony Fash and student union coming to drive us out for Aluta using Mozambique girls. MOZ101. Joining the train to go and woo girls in Moz who would rather be with a stalite. White House. Shocking. Road 1. Veritus. Mr Moz. Living in Awo. . I lived in Awo from 200L to 500L. All those awo beans, aro. "E jade kawa bura wa (Come out, lets yab ourselves)". "Won ti tun de o (they've come again)" Arguments in Awo coffee room. Some people will just present some views and u wonder how they come to be in that skool in the first place.

All the nice architectures. The parties in first semester and the fellowship in second. Alacarte, Iya Egin, Iyan Pharmacy. Club boyz n girls, lecture theaters at night during exam period.......... risky burger, dangerous burger, Nice memories , .

yea I lived in awo too in 94/95 session,it was a mess.I mean a rather fun kinda mess.never stayed angola, but had friends who did. I remember those burgers,oh boy!, I never touch those now, but back then, it was a luxury kinda food, thats why its called risky burger. If you stay on them you go down on budget. I just love to relive those memories.

actually wasnt in oau but knows everydamn thing u guys just said......i go to the halls , classes,eat dem foods en knows da lecturers..lol!...practically spent my time going bout....feels like one of them...its good fun though,ws supposed to be there but travelled instead,lived in one of the quarters road...great times,good fun!!!!!!!!

I was in Ife for 5 sessions. Spent 4 sessions in Awo hall. I left in 2001. I remember when cult guys came to skool in 1999. We ran out of our rooms flip over the fence at the back of the hall at the height of the shootings. When the shooting died down, I was trying to climb the fence back into the hall and I couldn't get a grip. Someone (one of the people on my side of the fence) just ask rhetorically, "se person help u jump the fence come this side?" Everybody just busted into laughter . I had to climb a tree before I could get over the fence .

Ife was quite an experience. Awo was a crazy experience . I remember one night, I woke by 12am to go and read in class. I was just passing the Awo coffee room when a passerby just called out familiarly "Igi Iwe, Eso odo" (meaning that I read with nothing to show for it ). This is a guy I've never met and I just wasn't what he was calling me . I just wanted to chase the guy and punch him because I was lost for words but he wouldn't just wait to get even the mildest reply. At the end of the day, I abadoned the class and went to the coffee room to go and find who to pick on . Greaaaaaaaaaaaat Ifeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

pluto...greatest Awoit....the fence story was typical...I have seen a few like that. I remembered in 94 we were in the room,block 2 or 3 room 89. and this kid came begging for water, then my roomate said.." why won't you go at least get ur own water downstairs....see, there is water in blk 1 and if u go to the tank at the bank u will get water, its always good to have ur own water...." he was still going on when the guy interjected, " see, i no come hear for sermon...na water I ask for, if I need sermon I go go all souls ok?" he said it in such a way that we all laughed.

Hey Pete! You stayed in block 3. You guys used to do "ejade kawa burawa" (come out, lets start yabbing competition) with block 2. Great awoite! I'm sure you're one of those with caustic mouth that those moza girls used to dread! "Won tunti de o" (They've come again)

@dollygurl, Awwww, Africa! The tragedy happened before I came into the school. But they acted the drama as Welcome Drama during our Freshers' Week. It was so sad.

@pluto04, I think it's dem Block 1 guys that are the best in Yabbing and Aro stuffs.

@IAH Block one are the craziest cause it's inhabited by "jambites" who are new to "aro" and generally tend to go to the extreme. I guess u had a taste right?

Yeah there's lots of nostalgia when i think about my time at Ife. Felt a bit cheated though cos we were in spiderhouse (zone for mech, met/mat and civil engers) which was sorta secluded from the other depts. Yeah, lots of peeps in that zone were scarred in their quest for the golden fleece....

Lots f other nice memories though. The serene and beautiful staff quarters never failed to thrill me.

Yea i remember the moremi girls ..........old , angry, sad but beautiful....... ! they re always jealous MOz ladies just because of the RUSH we do give them! we also called the babieless mother............they re just too old look 4 a serious relationship. great ife !

hey...I did stayed for a little bit on BLK 1 but never did aro...i use to love seeing other kids do it, but not me for real...I kid you not...I didn't do it. Did I see you mention Iya rasaki?, that my spot after I moved to quaters, I lived on road 7B circle...iya rasko!
The first Yoruba language I learn was " iyan gbono uwa oh"...did anyone lived in faj?....remember on shot guy who repairs shoes.....called agba akin...use to do yats..yats....heheh like when he sees a girl, he goes.."yats..yator lani ooh ooma!". now I have a friend who was really into this...when u take that shutcut from faj to sports.
