I read all these late but all I can say is I am very proud to be a Jehovah,s Witnesses. Many pple don,t realise that more than half of us are really from different religious group and we were not born a witness.Have you ever realised why JW are always singled out for criticism or even persecution?Act28vs 22.To settle the context between God and Jesus,I think the best thing is to ask Jesus himself John14:28,it is noteworthy that Jesus himsef foretold that pple will make him God instead of worshipping His father matt7:21.When you think abt the many verses that show Jehovah God as a sovereign God and compare it with only one verse in John1:1,2, you can come to a reasonable conclusion that you are either not understanding the verse or blatantly disregarding the others.Even in that very chapter if you read it forward you will see a lot of verses that showed Jesus to be son of God as found in verse 18, and 34.The bible is not contradictory but pple seem to be choosy or screening bible and disregard other part when explaining it.When it comes to bible understanding,we all need to be humble or else we will think we know, why we don,t .I implore you to visit JW.Org often and see the biblical practical answers to many questions that many pple will say can never be understood. You can contact any witness around you or next time when they visit ,be opened to a bible discussion. Many things that pple accuse JW of is mere hear say, and have you ever wondered why these pple speak with one voice despite the fact that they live in different part of the world?Ask a bible question from two pple who go to the same church and claim to know bible, ask 3,4,5 etc you will see diff answers despite being in the same church and if u extend that to the members of the church in different town or cities, you will sometime come to ask urself, are they truly fr the same church?Do the same thing to Jehovah,s witnesses and see the result.Check this bible verse and honestly and objectively ask urself, who among christians is this bible verse can be related?1kor1:10!

and basically has been passed down from family to family . . .
without even them, taking time to study and find out whether such statements are true or not
afterall the Bible said, we should test every inspired expressions and see if they are true , , ,

For the Jehovah witnesses, I have a question:

1. Was Jesus resurrected as a spirit or as a human with a body?

literally, if he was resurrected as a spirit, then how come Mary was able to recognize him . .
or even the apostles and even Thomas . . afterall, he spent a little time on earth after resurrection before ascending to heaven ?

There are a lot of translations and scholars that have a contrary view, they view and translated part of that verse to "the word was a god". These translations goes along with the fact that jesus is not the father and the father is God Almighty.

You are not being honest here, which other translation apart from NWT? If he doubt, go to the earliest sources or even the earliest manuscripts to confirm for yourself. The problem then becomes, why don't JW translate other parts of the Bible to be the same word. The New World Translation of the JW says: "And the Word was a god" contrary to all other translations I have ever seen. Can you list the other translations apart from New World Translation please. Your officials say that this translation is justified because in the original Greek the word "God" is without the article. It is without the article but it is clear that this is not their real reason because verses 6, 12 and 13 of the same first chapter of John contain similar usages of the word 'God", all without the article. You guys translated all of these correctly with a capital "G" and without inserting "a". The only instances I have found in which you guys translate "God" with a small "g" are when "God" refers to Christ. It is certainly not done consistently whenever the Greek word for "God" lacks the article. (See the examples in John 3:21, 8:54, 9:16, 9:33). In the case of John 1:1-3, to avoid a translation that correctly identifies Christ as God, the New World Translation ends up attributing the creation of all things to "a god" smiley

There are many manuscripts , listing them here will derail the thread. Pls( and I believe you are sincere in ur questions) put 1 john 5:7 on a search engine and see the various commentary, translations and views on that verse. Once you have done that, pls quote me and let's discuss.

List the ones that changed or inserted the additional comments like you claimed. I have researched most of these manuscripts as I used to be a Muslim and very interested in what you are saying.

Good Bro, the only God that holds that position is not jesus.
Even the "worship" that you say jesus commands was given to him by God.
Even the authority given to jesus to judge and forgives sin was given to him by God.
God, his father is superior to him!

You are missing what I am saying. Only God can forgive sins and only God can be worshiped. Both of these characteristics belong to Jesus as well. Jesus can forgive sins, that is why we can give him such a title as God. Only Jesus demanded worship just as God.

Thomas, realising that it was really jesus made that exclamation.(that exclamation has been explained on these thread) But jesus had ealier told mary to tell them that he has not ascended to his God, which is also thomas' God.

So, it was Jesus that said - "My Lord and My God". Why are you being dishonest? Jesus called himself my Lord and my God. Is that what the verse said? Cha grin

And he is always talking to himself abi, taking things from himself to do things right?

In the Bible, who is addressed as the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end? Is that Jehovah or Jesus?

I.e " he hands over the kingdom to HIS GOD ND FATHER" 1 Cor 15: 24 .

.....

Rev 1:8 is Jehovah God .

Verse 4,5 differentiate Jehovah Almighty GOD from Jesus the faithful and true witness .

Thanks for indulging me, So you confirmed that Revelation 1:8 is referring to Jehovah and you are right, no doubt about that. Please indulge me.

1. Revelation 21:5-7: 5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

Here we see the identification that Alpha and Omega is Jehovah God right?

2. Revelation 22:13 = I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Here we see Jehovah as being called the first and the last - is that correct?

3. Revelation 1:17 = When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the first and the last.

Here we see Jehovah called the first and the last again. So far, do you agree that it is Jehovah that is being referenced?

Have you tried to see if there are other translations that use "a god"? .
Even if you have not, dnt worry, me and you will discuss john 1:1 shortly.(maybe during The day)

On john 5:7, Bro if you had researched on the manuscripts , you would have known why most translation removed or did not put the words you quoted in that verse .
You are missing what I am saying. Only God can forgive sins and only God can be worshiped. Both of these characteristics belong to Jesus as well. Jesus can forgive sins, that is why we can give him such a title as God. Only Jesus demanded worship just as God.
And I did tell you that the authority and power to forgive sins, which is inherent in the authority to judge, was giving to jesus by God, his father. And if something was giving to. Someone, it means that at a time he did not have such authority. This authority was later extented to the disciples and it also did not make them God. If you say only God can forgive, are the disciples God too?
On the issue of worshipped, (even though I do not subscribe to that word, ill use it here). Bro, you read the scriptures, you read why jesus is worshipped, your read why he was exalted above his compannions, he was worshipped cus the angels where told to do so by someone superior to jesus. As long as jesus is not that superior God, jesus is not the almighty God.

So, it was Jesus that said - "My Lord and My God". Why are you being dishonest? Jesus called himself my Lord and my God. Is that what the verse said? Cha grin
Is that what I said ? Absolutely no, I never said jesus said " my lord and my god, read my post again before you accuse me of dishonesty, and after you have done so, ill like you to retract ur accusation.

In the Bible, who is addressed as the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end? Is that Jehovah or Jesus?
Pls show me which verse(s) you are reffering to . And while doing that pls always not, that jesus is always subjected to his God, the father, the almighty God.

NO my brother Jehovah's witnesses does not disrespect any government. in fact, available facts prove that JW are among the most peaceful and law abiding people on earth(at gatherings of up to 200 thousand people there is not b police man needed coz they're so orderly). I used to listen to this people before but they're very funny, in my compound we have 2 JW when I put to bed and invited them for my Child's Dedication for where even to come to the house and see the baby for where, the food I took to them I knocked and they didn't open the door, and this is someone you call ur neighbour, my question is, is there anything sinful with the food or coming out to celebrate with ur neighbour? My hubby once dated a JW the girl said over her dead body will she marry somebody that doesn't share her faith with her, and that one said its over between them she disturbed him even after knowing that he's engaged to get married to another lady. At a point I became so angry with her because she wanted to break my marriage, their ladies that I know flirt as in flirt a lot. They should amend their doctrine and not to hold things so hard especially when it comes to Marriage if their member marry outside the person automatically becomes an outcast, how do you intend to win souls for God by doing that? meanwhile some must have committed fornication with the person but won't agree to marry him/her.

Let me test your sincerity
1 Corinthians 15:27,28 has this to say:
For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him,

[it is manifest that he is excepted]

, which did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
Notice the word woods IB bracket clearly says that God is not among the things subjected to Jesus.
This help any sincere person appreciate this point if you were not previously aware
I hope this helps without need for arguments about words which the witnesses avoid
[qquote author=Esdb3 post=39817391]

Who has the earth seen. Jesus or God?

Who died for your sins Jesus or God?

Who do you pray to Jesus or God?

So Jesus was being silly when he said 'if you have seen me you have seen God?"

The trinity means Jesus is God and God is Jesus but God is greater than Jesus. The things of God are hidden from the wisdom of the wise. The JW bastardized John 1:1 by writing 'the word was a god'. John couldn't have been describing some god and go on to say 'there was nothing made that was not made through him'

What you fail to understand is - Jesus and God are like the body and spirit they are so intimate and close. That is why God called him his beloved son.

God even went on to make Jesus name greater than every other name including his. 'YHWH' is a name and Jesus is a name so before you argue think. How can you pray in the name of Jesus and not be worshipping him.

You believe saluting the flag is worshipping it but praying in Jesus name is not a form of worship? Hypocrites.[/quote]

Let me test your sincerity
1 Corinthians 15:27,28 has this to say:

I hope this helps without need for arguments about words which the witnesses avoid.
Jesus employed the same method when he asked for a coin to disprove an argument.

Am sure many nairalander will have continued to argue with Jesus after such incontrovertible prove.
Your advice to think deeply seems to have another meaning or do you mean think illogically?
The word was God . .. simply means he was God , but then another God who is superior exists
e.g Ambode is god to Lagos as governor, but Buhari is a bigger god as president

The word is GOd . . means the word is God presently, and no other God exists
e.g Ambode is God as govenor . . the word is meaning presently, so it means presntly Ambode is God supreme

Brother, please, think it well and see the differences . . .

Ambode is God (which means he is one and only God) . . . is different from Ambode is a God , (which means he is just one of many others who have Godlike powers)

Think deeply sir

Nnaabros:

THIS IS COMMON CAUSE OF CONTROVERSY. KINDLY FIND HEREB BRIEF EXPLANATION. FOR DETAILS, PLEASE SPEAK WITH A WITNESS.

Christians are commanded to ‘abstain from blood’

Acts 15:28, 29: “The holy spirit and we ourselves [the governing body of the Christian congregation] have favored adding no further burden to you, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled [or, killed without draining their blood] and from fornication. If you carefully keep yourselves from these things, you will prosper. Good health to you!” (There the eating of blood is equated with idolatry and fornication, things that we should not want to engage in.)

Does the Bible’s prohibition include human blood?

Yes, and early Christians understood it that way. Acts 15:29 says to “keep abstaining from . . . blood.” It does not say merely to abstain from animal blood. (Compare Leviticus 17:10, which prohibited eating “any sort of blood.”) Tertullian (who wrote in defense of the beliefs of early Christians) stated: “The interdict upon ‘blood’ we shall understand to be (an interdict) much more upon human blood.”—The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. IV, p. 86.

Is a transfusion really the same as eating blood?

In a hospital, when a patient cannot eat through his mouth, he is fed intravenously. Now, would a person who never put blood into his mouth but who accepted blood by transfusion really be obeying the command to “keep abstaining from . . . blood”? (Acts 15:29) To use a comparison, consider a man who is told by the doctor that he must abstain from alcohol. Would he be obedient if he quit drinking alcohol but had it put directly into his veins?

In the case of a patient that refuses blood, are there any alternative treatments?

Often simple saline solution, Ringer’s solution, and dextran can be used as plasma volume expanders, and these are available in nearly all modern hospitals. Actually, the risks that go with use of blood transfusions are avoided by using these substances. The Canadian Anaesthetists’ Society Journal (January 1975, p. 12) says: “The risks of blood transfusion are the advantages of plasma substitutes: avoidance of bacterial or viral infection, transfusion reactions and Rh sensitization.” Jehovah’s Witnesses have no religious objection to the use of nonblood plasma expanders.

Jehovah’s Witnesses actually benefit from better medical treatment because they do not accept blood. A doctor writing in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (June 1, 1968, p. 395) acknowledged: “There is no doubt that the situation where you [the surgeon] are operating without the possibility of transfusion tends to improve your surgery. You are a little bit more aggressive in clamping every bleeding vessel.”

All types of surgery can be performed successfully without blood transfusions. This includes open-heart operations, brain surgery, amputation of limbs, and total removal of cancerous organs. Writing in the New York State Journal of Medicine (October 15, 1972, p. 2527), Dr. Philip Roen said: “We have not hesitated to perform any and all indicated surgical procedures in the face of proscribed blood replacement.” Dr. Denton Cooley, at the Texas Heart Institute, said: “We became so impressed with the results [from using nonblood plasma expanders] on the Jehovah’s Witnesses that we started using the procedure on all our heart patients.” (The San Diego Union, December 27, 1970, p. A-10) “‘Bloodless’ open-heart surgery, originally developed for adult members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect because their religion forbids blood transfusions, now has been safely adapted for use in delicate cardiac procedures in infants and children.”—Cardiovascular News, February 1984, p. 5.

Easier quoted than in reality.....not in a 3rd world country like ours. How many open heart surgeries have been performed in Nigeria not to talk of bloodless. Anyways life is all about choices and if one chooses to be a JW one should be ready to abide by the teachings and rules of the religion. Needless say, I seen a few that bulged when it got to the point of death despite signing the no trans blood. I see it has, if one is a JW and at the point of death where it's just blood that can save the life, maybe it's just the person's time to pai. Thanks

. Let me talk on the so-called failed predictions. It is true that JWs had had some failed expectations. But is that enough to discredit them? Proverbs 4:18 says that the path of the righteous one gets brighter and brighter. Even Jesus' trained apostles had some failed expectations (Acts 1:6,7; 1Cor 13:9-12). The bible shows that God enables his servants to understand his purpose in a progressive manner.(Daniel 12:8,9; 1Pet. 1:10-12). The bible also shows that there would be great increase in knowledge in the time of the end( Daniel 12: 4). You would agree that increased knowledge often requires adjustments in one's thinking and JWs are willing and humble to make such adjustments, which includes the long realization of the fact that no one knows the hour this world will end. I think it would be unfair to discredit them for some mistaken expectations, because for one thing, they have helped millions of people to come to appreciate so many bible truths, which of course I think you know some. Discrediting them is just like discredting a respected and knowledgeable professor just because he makes one or two blunders which he accepts as his wrong. What about other things he's been doing? Food for thought, right?

You are very funny with your response. I think Russell and Rutherford had clear knowledge about the fact that no one knows the exact day the world world would end yet went about preaching this umbilical doctrine. You are yet to answer my question on Charles Russell and Rutherford. Did you even know that Rutherford died in your so called "Beth Sarim" expecting Jesus and the patriarchs would come live in the house your organisation has built for them? Is very laughable that your organisation keeps this dirty history from devoted members like you . Have you even laid your hands on Charles Taze Russell's "The finished mystery" he even claimed you won't have the proper knowledge of the bible if you don't read it. Don't bother going to your headquarters in Pennsylvania to look for it, the internet or Library of Congress would be of good help. Bro, get knowledge and be liberated. Your zeal amounts to nothing if you keep denying the deity of Christ. God bless you.
