I am not too sure about the exact cause of your vehicles’ problems; however, you may find the following facts about Nigerian petrol very useful.

Nigeria operates a single unleaded petrol grade of 90 RON at our filling stations.  In some cases our filling stations even dispense petrol with octane as low as 88 RON.

RON (research octane number) is a measure of patrols resistance to knock. The higher the octane rating of petrol, the less the potential for engine knocking.

The majority of vehicles imported into Nigeria require a minimum of 95 RON to run effectively and avoid engine damage.

The fact that our petrol is significantly below the minimum standard required for our vehicles, goes a long way in explaining the range of fuel and engine problems encountered by many of our vehicles.

The evidence of the problems associated with our low octane and inferior petrol is spread across Nigeria:

•   Engine and fuel component damage;
•   High fuel consumption;
•   Excessive maintenance and servicing costs;
•   Overheating and piston damage;
•   Poor vehicle response and acceleration;
•   Unsatisfactory and stressful driving experiences.
