Aggrieved residents of Abraka Community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State in the early hours of on Friday protested the continued attacks on them including their farms by gun wielding herdsmen operating in the community.

The protesting residents were said to have barricaded some major roads in the community, leaving economic and commuting activities paralyzed, while they chanted solidarity songs and carried placards which among other messages that were designed to express their plight on the activities on the herdsmen in the area in the last six months.

The protesters’ placards read: “Hausa, You kill, you rape, you damage, Hausa/Fulani, stop raping our women, stop killing us, leave our farms alone, no gazing on our cassava farms, no to mallam, leave our farms”, regretting that in the last six months the herdsmen have allegedly desecrated their lands especially as they rape house wives.

Speaking to our correspondent, the President General of Abraka Community Mr. Tedwins Joseph Emudainohwo said “we are protesting because of the present situation we are faced in the hands of the herdsmen, they have in despicable manners destroy our farm lands, raped house wives and kill some of our children, we will not allow this to continue, they have destroyed Abraka farm lands as well as their constant destruction of our valuable crops and property”.

The protesters’ were said to have matched to the Police station and the Royal Palace of the community where they were addressed by some senior Police men who promised to look into their protest with a view to finding a lasting solution to it.

Mr. Emudainohwo however recalled that among the many cases of the herdsmen attacks: “an Oruarivie-Abraka farmer was kills by Hausa/Fulani herdsmen” on March 20, 2015, adding that although the assailants were apprehended and handed over to the Police in Abraka the menace has, by no means rescinded.
