Favparis:Obviously you are not schooled in the science of economic management. You won't see the effect of this policy now because its either you eat from your parents pot or your disposable income is so small that the free falling value of naira have no meaning to you. It is better to guess what could have been for laymen like you than to practically experience what harm the free falling value of naira which this selfish first world countries are preaching will do to the country economy and her people. |

EternalTruths: I quite understand. Have they convinced China to stop artificial influence of their currency to encourage exportation? In an economy that has wealth without value like Nigeria I encourage this short term approach. Do not forget that we do not yet have the facilities to accommodate such industries. It is not enough to invite or for them to honor an invitation when cost of production is high, interest rate is high, and our inflation rate is almost hitting double digits. |

Forget what the foreign world powers, imf, world Bank tell you. Nigeria economy is good. We are experiencing a degeneration cos we are rebuilding and very soon we will see the impact of the regeneration of the economy powered by local content. Let them find other people to deal with, let them deport all Nigerians as they have threatened. We are on the road to glory. |

The do you know what i just realized? Africa as a whole can single handedly cripple the west without any war or sanctions, and i promise you, the downfall of the west will mean the uplift of Africa. Here is how africa can do it. 1. Hold secret meetings between all nationalistic african leaders on how to gradually completely stop exporting raw materials to the west by implimenting protectionist policies. So that if western companies aren't willing to set up real manufacturing plants here in africa, then no more raw materials, instead invest in our own know how to utilise those raw materials. 2. Africa should aslo impose strict monetery controls such that borowwing dollars to import agric products cannot be allowed anymore. Instead, companies should farm and add value to the products here in africa and pay taxes. By now, western companies will start to feel the pinch, and start complaining because there revenues will surely be depreciating. 3. Deliberatly assist willing migrants to flow into western countries massively, thereby over stretching theri finances and societies, simultaneaously offering massive pays to real skilled africans to remain in africa and even attracting the west's best minds. 4. Since they can't do without african oil, silicon, bitumen, gold, Gas, e.t.c Huge taxes should be impossed on those items I promise with these policies, the western economy will definitely come close to hitting rock bottom. And the will be the opportunity for africa to truly rise and shine. Africa should try doing that not because of anything but the pleasure of seeing the we are important too and can actually use our power too and if anything, to play with their economies like they did with ours for centuries. 2 Likes |

It is hard for such currency regulation by the cbn to work in a single commodity economy as nigeria. This is 21st and not 17th century. Most fdi will nt invest bcus doing so will mean losing abinitio about 20% of ur cap. Why bcus d naira is over value to that tone. We r talkin about astute investors here. The only way to go is developing the real sector. But b4 this we all may need to take a pay cut. But sentiments and insincerity no go allow us. 1 Like |

Bluffly: You can easily reduce cost of production by establishing industrial areas and build special power stations for them to supply them electricity In the case of interest rate and inflation rate, you can support the companies by not taxing them in their first 20 years of operation. |

OnReflection:I am just seeing this now. And yes, I read the article and it was focused on America keeping a strong hold on Africa to prevent terrorism in Africa from snowballing into America, and also to get a greater hold on resources and the huge consumer base. These reasons definitely does not make Africa a threat whatsoever to the US, the way china is. It only highlights the fact that Africa is a baby that needs to be watched and sometimes exploited since she can't use her resources herself. You are out of your depth here. God bless America. |

holyfather:Africa is a shitthole with no protective cover whatsoever. Russia a second world country is suffering the effects of crossing the US, let alone Africa. The time to play a strong game with the US is not now. Develop your country to a point of self-sufficiency and prosperity, then you can talk. China did not started acting strong until they became truly strong. For now, any sanctions the US inflicts on Africa would send the continent back to the stone age. That is the bitter truth. |

He who want to fly must first learn how to walk, he who want to walk must learn how to fall. This is the best decision for both short and long term for Nigeria. The only problem I have with this is power sector. If Fashola can revamp these issues then Nigeria will be great. It will take some time, maybe four years but after a decade of promoting local industry, Nigeria will be a force to recon with. It takes China 30 years but It will take Nigeria just under 7 years because of availability of today technologies. Nigeria have both the population and expertise to build this nation. These guys that reside in US/EU knows what I'm talking about. Let the US/EU shut up! We have to build from within, they don't even patronize our oil anymore! Anything that is bad for them is good for us. Do you guys think US/EU love us that much to care about us more than us? They know it will only take less than 8 years to get back on track to be one of the biggest economy in the world. They need us more than we need them. |

CSTR2:/ Don't tell the GDP story to the deluded Nigerians that always compare Nigeria with USA. Los Angeles, one of the many counties(LGA) in California has GDP of $650bn. while Nigeria as a country is celebrating $500bn in GDP. Fact remains that Nigeria is a very poor country. / |

The stupidity of many NLers is bewildering. Most of them conveniently ignored the part which says that Nigerian delegates have also complained. Kids all over here mehn. All businessmen I knw are complaining bitterly, even Chamber of Commerce has complained, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has complained una dey here dey behave like the proverbial ostrich. I weep for this country. Next year is looking very very bad from what I see. Inasmuch as I hate US, what is being said by them nw has been said severally by our indigenous firms too. Block heads abound on NL I swear and most of them are buhari supporters. It's a pity... |

the idiots are worried that our economy would improve and their own would reduce... so we should keep importing rice and tooth pick when we can produce it ourselves. |
Re: United States, EU Report Nigeria To World Trade Organization. by Dee60: 2:56pm On Nov 12, 2015 |
Why should they be bothered that Nigeria is no longer interested in funding import of toothpicks and fish? Which sensible nation that is surrounded by water will be imprting rotten fish from far away south america? With all our forest of Iroko trees, why should it be difficult to make toothpicks? Looks like someone wants to use us dumping ground forever. Meanwhile they wont allow us carry elubo and garri through their airports, even when they are meant for our own household consumption. Can you imagine? |

OnReflection: Took time to read the report and came up with the following points. Proactive engagement with Africa in securing peace and security is vital for the mutual benefit of both Africa and the United States is lacking.US focus on mainly on security and this is reactive while China focus on developmental projects which is highly proactive. The reality is that the U.S. is being increasingly edged out of the continent politically and economically as Chinese funding flows to Africa with “no strings attached,” such as requirements on transparency, anti-corruption, environmental protection, development and better governance. This is contrary to the US approach; For instance the failed arms deal between the Federal government and the US is a good example.US is losing trust quite rapidly. The U.S. needs to better coordinate with China on providing aid, technology and technical support in the fields of health care, and medical and agricultural assistance. Currently most of the support from the US is in humanitarian aid and medicine, these areas have little direct commercial benefit and require less capital and infrastructure development. U.S. government provides virtually no support for American businesses seeking to trade or invest in Africa. Beyond global health, the U.S. is the leading donor of humanitarian aid to sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the area of emergency food; The US failed to take advantage of long standing relationship to advance knowledge on technology and development with Africa, rather they were more concern with spying and resource exraction. But China is building relationships with governments which translates into both resource and technology transfer. The US is still thinking AID while China is thinking business; Right now for every possible US Multinationl in Nigeria, there is a Chinese equivalent.China is giving Africa (Nigeria) alternative,it is no longer a monopoly. The US oil companies for instance have continously polluted lands thereby destroying the livelihoods of people in oil producing regions without fully addressing these issues. When they want to they send out funds through unreliable stakeholders who end up mismanaging it.Meanwhile for any chinese projects, the chinese take direct responsibility from start to finish, knowing fully well that African leaders have bad fund management records. This model is the same as the Julius Berger construction company operation. Oil companies especially those from the U.S. would have to start thinking in this direction and make sure that all relevant projects on community social responsibilities and compensation are executed by trusted partners even if they have to come from abroad. The US would have to raise its game and rethink,it is no longer business as usual. 1 Like |
