News has been making the rounds that there is toxic edible cow hide, notoriously tagged killer ponmo, in the market.

The government of Ogun State raised an alarm last week that the killer ponmo has infested markets in the state. According to the sources, the killer ponmo is brownish black in colour, has foul smell, abnormally thick with layered sections and is ridiculously cheaper than the “certified” ponmo.

The source of this killer ponmo is believed to be unscrupulous businessmen, who have taken advantage of the high demand for ponmo among local consumers to saturate the market with industrial hides heavily laden with chemicals and meant to be processed into leather.

As a result of the alarm raised by the government of Ogun State, sellers of the killer ponmo have gone underground.
