Types of headphones:

As you all know and can see there are different types on headphone based on design. They are:

EARBUDs: The commonest and often cheapest type of headphone are the earbuds also called in-ear headphones, they often come with phones and music players, they have very simple designs and do not cover the ear, the good thing about them is they are suitable for all type of use and also very portable.

It also has an advantage over others as it can be used by someone using glasses because it doesn’t pass through the head, it usually comes in different colors but the major colors seen around are usually white and black. There are varieties to choose from.

The downside of in-ear headphones is that some are not very efficient and not well customized, many in-ear headphones that comes with phones are just basic headphones just to hear the sound and scarce to get best earphones with bass, they are not advanced and most of them are made for the larger audience in mind.

ON-HEAR OR SUPRA AURAL HEADPHONES: This is much different from the in-ear headphones. It goes over the head and press on the ear not covering it entirely thereby leaving some spaces that allow noise and sound interference to enter and consequently it allows the music to be heard outside it just stays on the ear.

It is not very effective when used where there is noise as most of the noise will interfere with your music and also it’s not effective where there is silence as the music will not be heard only by you it will be also be spilled to the surrounding. It comes with different designs too they are all similar.

OVER THE EAR OR CICURMAURAL HEADPHONES: They are very similar to the on-ear headphone/supra aural but the main difference is that it cups the ear rather than press on it, there are many over the ear headphones best rated in this list. It cups and covers the ear entirely with the aid of extra foam around the ear. It also applies pressure over the entire ear area.

OPEN BACK: Open back leak more sound into the surrounding and allows ambient noise to filter and interfere with the sound. It makes the feel of the music more natural and gives the impression that you are hearing the sound from distance.

CLOSED BACK: The ends of the ear cups are blocked from the surroundings, making the headphone more ear tight and less likely to permit ambient noise, it makes the sound distance closer and gives the impression that the music is coming from inside the head. Many best bass headphones are of this type.

SEMI OPEN: This is partially open and partially closed it is designed so that it can eliminate the negatives of both open and closed back and combine the positives of the two. It blocks sound partially while it leaves some to pass through.

NOTE: open back, closed back, and semi open are all types of supra aural headphone and cirumaural headphone. So we can have an open back supra aural as well as an open back circumaural.

HEADSET: A headset is an headphone that is combined to a microphone they are commonly used for telephone and gaming, they are also used in aviation and telecommunication, many voice chats e.g. skype needs headset and it is commonly found in voice-over studios.

BASS HEADPHONES BASED ON USE

NOICE REDUCTION HEADPHONES: As the name implies they are used to reduce the noise in the surrounding by eliminating ambient noise. Closed back and in ear headphone can do a great job of reducing noise up to 20db. The headphone blocks out the noise by passive noise cancellation and/or active noise isolation.

Passive noise isolation simply uses the body of the headphone, that is, the design of the headphone to block out the noise from entering the ear, in-ear headphones are very effective while closed back headphones also do a good job of reducing noise with passive noise cancellation.

Active noise cancelation uses speaker, amplifier and headphone to reduce ambient noise, it places the ambient noise in phase reversal.

Some are effective when there is constant sound, while some are designed to reduce engine noise when travelling e.g. in airplanes and trains the microphone collects the noise from the environment and the headphone plays an inverted version of the sound with the same frequency thereby cancelling out the original noise, they are very effective and expensive, they also uses battery.
