At the end of the day, they must pay. Shittu too needs some money from there to rehabilitate himself and be integrated into the Abuja society. He dresses like a village man from Ibadan. Very soon, he'll upgrade.

MTN pay up!!!

Lol@village man from Ibadan.
Am a proud villager as well. Thanks.

MTN came to Nigeria at a time when nobody wanted to invest in Nigeria,
at a time when Nigerians did not have phones. Even Zenith Bank refused
to loan MTN cash to operate, UBA rejected MTN's offer but today see
the difference. MTN pave way for so many investors.

It's not only MTN that is guilty of the alleged allegation and in all modesty, N1.4trilln fine is too outrageous. FG should look for a better way to generate revenue please.

Are you saying his purpose of been there is to steal and look good? Some of you are really confused. Anyway, it only happen when the foundation of the house is not strong.

I really wonder if federal government were sleeping when they asked MTN to pay that amount that would eventually lead to negotiation. They would have simply asked them to pay an amount that would not involve negotiation to avoid making it look like someone has taken bribe.

The amount doesn't make any good sense, how can they fine them 1000$ per sim does that make sense
The same Nigerian people who hail the 5billion naira fine would have called for PMB's head if MTN threating to leave Nigeria

But the fine was published long ago and they knew.

Any dithering here would show weakness.

They can reduce the fine to $1 or $150 or any amount but it should be across the board, not just for MTN.

Why do i hv dis feeling about our rulers trying to be generous/amiable/cowardly/toothless bulldog/liverless to foreigners but at d same time ruthless/barbaric to dia fellow Nigerians(e.g. OBJ seceding Bakassi to Cameroun vs Demolishing and genocide of Odi community & pple; PMB back-tracking on deadline of payment of MTN's fine vs massacre and imprisonment of IPOB,MASSOB,SE & SS pple)?

Bro,

From the little I have read here, that $1000 was agreed among all the communication company before it was enshrined into the " NCC communication Constitution ".

As for leaving, I don't think so... this is because Nigeria account for at least 37% of their total profit across the " whole world ".
My opinion thou.

I don't think this humongous amount would eventually be paid by MTN.

God bless you. I won't expect MTN to pay a quarter of Nigeria budget in the name of paying fine. What happens to the innocent subscribers who would eventually receive degraded service?
Ultimately, the essence of fine would be defeated
