N413billion Subsidy Payment... Another Scam by Nobody: 9:40am On Nov 17, 2015
I want to believe that we have no need to pay any subsidy as Nigerians are already subsidising the FG on fuel. Let us take it this way.
As at this time last year or so crude was selling at $110 per barrel. By then, the landed cost was put at about N120 per litre. I remembered that Prof. Tam David West provided an analysis then that showed that even at that price of crude, Nigerians could still buy fuel at the pump at about N45.
Fast forward to Buhari regime. Crude is currently selling at $42 per barrel, that is about 1/3 of the price last year. By simple extrapolation, and assuming Prof landed cost template is not affected by any externalities, the landed cost should now be in the range of N45/3 = N15. Yes, I know of the fixed cost elements which constituted about 30% of Prof computation. Therefore, with 30% of N45 being fixed and assuming the rough landed cost as a result of reduced crude price, the worst case is a final landed cost if N50 (fixed cost - N15, crude cost - N15 and others say N20).
From above, I want to ask NNPC to show Nigerians their template that necessitated this subsidies. Until then, I will request the Senate to oppose the request for N413Billion. Extra budgetary request by Buhari.

Nigerians are already subsidising NNPC and FG by as much as N27 per litre at N87 pump price.

Let FG and NNPC first declare how much they have made in excess of the landed cost. With that, they can defray subsidy arrears. There is no need for any extra budgetary request.
