The Senate on Tuesday canvassed an increase in
the validity of Joint Admissions and
Matriculations Board (JAMB) results from one
year to three as part of efforts to reduce the
pressure on tertiary institutions from those
seeking admissions.

The Senate took this decision after adopting a
motion to that effect moved by Senator Joshua
Lidani and seven other Senators.
The Nigerian senate also summoned leadership
of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board,
to jointly resolve some of the issues considered
in its controversial admission policy,

Senate asked its committee on Education to
inquire into the circumstances surrounding the
new policy including allegations of favouritism
and to review the power of JAMB in relation to
admission.

It urged the body to consult widely with Parents
Teachers Association, Academic Staff Union of
Universities and other stakeholders in the
education sector with a view to coming up with a
friendlier, holistic, comprehensive and sustainable
admission policy.
